Default Oxygen Concentrators - Objective Q&A

My Oxy-Con just died. While searching threads here, many of them seemed to become pretty negative. In the quest for a more objective thread, I hope some of you will answer the following questions:

What kind of Oxy-Con?
How many hours does it have on it?
Where did you purchase it?
New/Used/Reconditioned?
Warranty?
Level of Satisfaction w/your Oxy-Con? Scale of 1-10, 10 being best.
What kind of torch?
What kind of glass?
Avg Size Beads?
Environmental Conditions (I live in C. Florida)

If I have forgotten any crucial questions, please feel free to add any information you think is nedded. I appreciate your help so much.

Good questions and I'll be interested in the answers.

Mine is a reconditioned Respironics and replaced the first one that went bad after just 4 months. I bought it from a vendor who referred me to the supplier when I had probems. That didn't turn out to be an ideal situation, costing $50 to UPS it and a month delay, so if you can, deal directly with the supplier, i.e. the party that reconditions the machines, I would do that. I believe all oxycons are reconditioned medical units, retrofitted with connectors to lampworking hoses. It is possible to buy a new oxygen generator (as opposed to a concentrator) but they are quite pricey. Still, I think that will be my next big investment, but I hope to get 3 years out of my replaced concentrator.

What kind of Oxy-Con?
Two M-15s

How many hours does it have on it?
Approximately 1000 hours

Where did you purchase it?
Unlimited Oxygen

New/Used/Reconditioned?
Reconditioned

Warranty?
Three years

Level of Satisfaction w/your Oxy-Con? Scale of 1-10, 10 being best.
Not exactly tanked oxygen and definitely not liquid oxy, but it's a small sacrifice not having to deal with refilling and free after the initial purchase cost. I'd give it a 9 on the satisfaction scale.

What kind of torch?
Barracuda - I use both M-15s together and set them at 6-7 lpm for better purity (instead of maxing it at . I use mainly soda lime glass so it's plenty hot!

Piranha (inner fire of the Cuda) - when we have two torches going, I only use one M-15 for the inner fire and I find it less desirable than having both M-15s hooked up for the Piranha.

Bobcat - my sister uses a Bobcat and it really doesn't need a M-15. She thinks it's "too hot" sometimes

Cricket - same with the Bobcat

What kind of glass?
Mainly soda lime glass, plan on playing more with boro!

Avg Size Beads?
My beads are on the larger size - 2.5"-3" long. Encased floral beads are fairly thick. Sculptural works are 2"-3"

Environmental Conditions
San Francisco, California - so very mild weather with low humidity

Other comments
I use a LOT of silver glass, both striking and reducing. The purity of the oxygen is important when using reducing silver glass and the heat is important for striking ones. I am very happy with my set up!

Hope this helps!

Oxygen Unlimited's Hurricane is the way to go. Hundreds of hrs so far and it is fueling a lynx like a champ. I love it! Jack ,if it breaks tonight after I bragged on it, I am gonna scream! People complain about the noise, but I don't even hear it anymore and it sits right beside me. It has a three year warranty, but it takes a long time to get one and it is expensive (but to me worth every penny). Works fine in humid Mississippi weather. Now I hope I haven't brought down the anger of the concentrator gods.

Anybody working at high altitudes with their oxycons? Any observations about performance changes vs lower altitudes?

Thanks!

My first oxycon was an M10, so here's my answers for the M10.

What kind of Oxy-Con?
M10
How many hours does it have on it?
I used it 4-5 times per week for 1.5 years
Where did you purchase it?
Can't recommend the place I purchased from
New/Used/Reconditioned?
I believe Unlimited Oxygen uses the word, rebuilt
Warranty?
At the time I purchased, it was just a few months
Level of Satisfaction w/your Oxy-Con? Scale of 1-10, 10 being best.
3 maybe
What kind of torch?
MiniCC
What kind of glass?
Primarily Effetre but also boro, COE 96, Bullseye and Satake
Avg Size Beads?
small to medium
Environmental Conditions (I live in C. Florida)
G'ville FL and I thought that the summer humidity caused a huge decline in the oxycon's performance.

I sold the M10 and bought a Regalia -- here's the answers to your questions for the Regalia

What kind of Oxy-Con?
Regalia
How many hours does it have on it?
I haven't torched as much but I'd guess 3-4x/week for 1.5 years
Where did you purchase it?
Kimberly @ Pyronamix -- excellent person to deal with and she sells reconditioned medical units as well as the Regalia
New/Used/Reconditioned?
New
Warranty?
Hmm... I'm not sure -- mostly because I haven't had to look it up. The machine has run beautifully from day 1.
Level of Satisfaction w/your Oxy-Con? Scale of 1-10, 10 being best.
10
What kind of torch?
MiniCC, Cricket, Betta
What kind of glass?
