Default Charred glass

Hi everyone.
I'm relatively new to the lampwork world, I started about 4 months ago. The place I have been getting my gas from has recently shut down and the other two places I've tried I end up getting dirty, charred looking beads. I'm sure I'm not doing anything different, but the outcome is absolutely horrendous.

I'm using Map and a hot head torch.
Any tips would be helpful, really hope I can figure it out.

Thanks so much

Sounds like your gas is corrupted. Try getting some 1lb. canisters of MapPro from Home Depot and running them on your HH; you should see improvement! Got pics?
I've got a murrini for that,'ya know!

Well you don't say where you are from... But MAPP gas is a brand name of propylene... I have heard other brands have a different formulation that can cause problems. I recommend you turn the torch down.. Til it is almost off... And try again. Also, stay away from the torch oriface, you want to be further out past the inner blue flame. A lot of newbies don't get how much heat and how far away ya need to be to make the glass sing.. And practice, patience and perseverance keep trying!
