Valentine? Pimento??? Maraschino!!
I just saw some positively gorgeous new limited CIM runs on the Frantz and Messy websites. How come we didn't hear about these yet?!?!? I see they went up yesterday and the day before on Frantz' website. Anyone know about these?
They are uber nice! Maybe they are just in the process of listing them, as currently a few are free I wish!

I have a few test color samples to share, the test colors are on the outer ring, and the left images are shiny, right images are etched matte:
Auburn is a gorgeous very dark burgundy purple-red. It is almost the same hue and shade value as Effetre Brown Dark Red, but is slightly cooler in color. It is a dense opaque that doesn’t transmit light. The core of the bead was made with 511820 CiM Hades followed by:
591204 Effetre White pastel Opaque
591006 Effetre super clear
591452 Effetre Brown Dark Red Opaque
591420-C Effetre Coral - Cinnamon Opaque
591006 Effetre Super Clear
511702 CiM Auburn Opaque
Crocus dots
**I MADE A MISTAKE>>>THIS COLOR IS ACTUALLY MARASCHINO (edited 11/25/11)
Valentine is a bright semi-opaque red that transmits a bit of light. It is a warm red compared to Effetre's Red Purple. A very true red.
The core of the bead was made with 511820 CiM Hades followed by:
591204 Effetre White pastel Opaque
511618 CiM Simply Berry Transparent
591438 Effetre Red Purple Opaque
591006 Effetre Super Clear
511102 Valentine Semi-Opaque (Maraschino)
Key Lime dots
Pimento is a dense red-orange, and completely opaque. Compared to Phoenix, it is about the same shade value, but the hue is more red.
Pimento: The core of the bead was made with 511820 CiM Hades followed by:
591204 Effetre White pastel Opaque
591452 Effetre Brown Dark Red Opaque
591006 Effetre Super Clear
511277 CiM Phoenix Opaque
591072 Effetre Orange Transparent
511203 CiM Pimento Opaque
Celadon dots
More color tests to come.

I was in the process of placing an order with Frantz when the colors popped up, so I added them to my cart, but later got an email that they won't be available until Dec 2012 - I wonder if this is a typo and she meant Dec 2011? I can't imagine they'd be on the website a full year before becoming available.

Elena, they should be ready to go early this Dec (just a couple of weeks), from what I understand from Kathy.

Oh I bet they are. Especially since China owns most of the rare earth mines in the world!

Right now China controls most of the chemicals (called rare earths) used in making glass and many other products and they have restricted exporting most of them to other countries. After undercutting the few other producing rare earth mines in the world in the 1990's causing them to close down there are few other places where manufacturers can currently buy these chemicals. (You can google "China rare earths" for more info.) The rare earth situation is the reason why some American glass companies have had to change formulas, raise prices, and sometimes stop making certain colors. Anyway, I was thinking that a glass company in China would have access to more and better chemicals and that should translate into great formulas and compatible colors, right?
I sure would love to visit China's mines and the the CiM factory some day!

That makes sense. I find CIM is just overall nicer in all areas than any other glass. I love Effetre and Vetro's amount of colors but Messy is an easier glass for me. I have thought to myself many times that it doesn't make sense. China products are usually cheaper and inferior but if I'm asked about glass manufacture, China makes a better product (to me) than Italy.

CiM has done a great job of listening to what beadmakers want and then delivering it!

I mentioned this years ago when people were criticizing CIM because it was made in China. The "ingredients" that go into everyone's glass come from China, just not the finished product.
It's not like they are mining lots of cadmium in Italy..

Yeah, that Maraschino looks pretty tasty. I wonder what it would look like under Clio?
