HI Merilee,

I was expecting to have the final draft back from my computer/layout gal today. Hopefully tomorrow. Then a day to throw it up on the webpage and get the password thing in place and its ready to roll.

I am chomping at the bit myself.....

Just a reminder. I am having a myelogram done on friday, and will have to lay flat for 24 hours. So, if I do release the tutorial earlier in the week, I wont be sending pasowrds on friday.

Once I get the final draft I will post how many pages nd how many pics in the final draft etc etc.....

I hate aiting for other folks to get stuff done... but I also know that vandy is working on the election.. for the wrng side.... lololol... but she is busy til tues and squeaking in time to finish the tut for me

Candice

I have decided to do something nice for all you patient folks who are waiting for the tut to be released.

I am going to do a little drawing from a pool of folks who purchase the tutorial through sunday the 30th of november. I have all the ornaments that I made as I did the tutorial, and I will pull a name for each group of ornaments. That way there will be multiple winners, and more fun, and a better chance to win a goodie. I will have either my husband or my 91 year old mom in law pull the winning names out of a hat to make it all fair.

oh another thing..... I sent drawings and a sample off today to a machinist friend for some tools. One of the tools is a set of holding fingers for a flat bottomed vase. It will hold it much more stable than regular holding fingers. The flat bottomed vase is the easiest of the vases to make, and will be my next tutorial most likely.

I have another design for tools that I think will make mini blown vessels and stoppers a whole new ball game. I will have to test the prototypes first, but I am excited about new possibilities.... and if the tools get made and sold, it will help a fellow LE person who is a single mom and has a tool biz.

I received an online flyer from Arrow Springs recently. They have clear tubing (104) that is on sale for 5./lb I have no idea if this would work with Candice's Tutorial or not. They had a note that said when it's gone-it's gone.

Here's some info from the flyer...

Casino Glass
These 1½” diameter, 2mm wall thickness tubes of Clear 104 COE glass were originally a casino chandelier. Now they’re ready to become whatever
you transform them into – Ornaments, vessels and more!

Make sure to vote today!

I didn't read the flier, but I got my glass from you, and I cannot wait to play with it!!!

I'm afraid to waste any before I get the tut, so it is patiently waiting in it's shipping box. I have boro tubing, but it wouldn't be the same, so I wait.....

I thought the whole idea of creating an ornament with materials originally used as a chandelier was neato...

yes, doing blown work is a whole different animal, and take a lot fo pactce. remember if you are workng the soft glass tubing/ neon sign tubing, it is lead glass and will reduce easily. So make sure you have a neutral flame, and you work further out in the flame than you do with boro.

The neon sign tubing is also standard wall tubing, and thinner than what a lot of boro folks use. But in my expereince, I like standard wall much beter because the wall thickness is more even and you end up with rounder bubbles etc.

The sign tubing is also very soft, and stays hot a long time, and I fint that a good thing, so take your time and blow slowly, it wil allow the heat to even out and give you better results.

soft glass ornaments 90 coe- lead glass tubing available through sign suppliers. bullseye colored rod and frits, thompson enamels 90 coe, furnace glass frits and powders.

I have not used the lauscha tubing yet, but thats 104 and you should be able to use 104 rods and frits with that with no problem.

Boro- clear tubing and colored rods and frits all in the same coe.

TUBING SIZES

tubing sizes mini ornaments- 10 mm soft glass neon tubing and matching frits and powders, and 10 mm ornament caps. I am hoping t get this in the tut, but not sure yet.

round ornaments 18-25 mm tube in soft glass, in boro same size in standard wall or aprox 16 mm in med wall.

tools needed for blown work - graphite rod, glass file( I am old school and use a glass file), or one of the new fangled rod and tubing cutters, shallow dishes for frits and powders and lots of patience.

Hi Candice...

I'm hoping all goes well with your procedure - wishing you all the very best! You've been so generous with keeping us posted, so I think we can be patient in return!

I ordered some Lau 104 white 10mm tube today from Bill (Moretti & More) and I'm figuring my Cricket will be here mid-November, but plan on having everything "ready" when the tutorial is released! I know you said not recommended for a Hot Head - keeping that recommendation in mind, and knowing that I've also been able to make 1 1/2" hollow beads, as well as "bangle" beads on my HH - I might give it a try. Still, I think the only thing I may be missing is your recommended "glass file" or as you indicate, the "new fangled rod/tube cutter" - I'm just not sure what this is!?! I have two sized rod "nippers" which are for my murrini, but I suspect that would crush and shatter/splinter the tube. Can you point me in the right direction for the "file" or "cutters" that I'll need? I think I'm all set with everything else...

Thanks, hun! And take care of yourself!

Candice-or anyone,
Here are a few questions I was wondering...I am trying hard to decide which coe tube to use.
I am concerned that if I get Lauscha tubes that there may be incompatibiltiy issues if I use , say, morretti frits or rods on them for color?Do you all think it may be different on these blown ornaments as a opposed to beads. I have had problems with incompatibility cracks.

If I get only 15mm and less tube will I be able to do nice round med size balls?
And are the caps available for other size tubes besides the 10mm tubes? If i make a larger ornament what can we use for caps or finishing...

Thanks so much for any help. I am just trying to figure out what to order, where and match it up with what I have!( I have Boro; lots of rods-some frit, 104: no frit -lots of rods, Bullseye; no frit -some colors rods, and Reichen;couple of frit and couple of rods only).

this is "all good" thanks Candice

After you make the ornament bottom, you let it cool, and then finish/melt the top into a loop. Then you don't need an ornament top.

hi,

The ornament caps do come in I think 18mm as well, but I only use the lil 10mm ones for the mini balls, the reast all have hoks/loops on them, its all in the tutorial.

I have not personally tried the lauscha tubing, but in teory the 104 glasses should work with it. If you have bullseye rod, then the 90 coe sign tubing is great, and the reichenbach also work well with the 90 coe tubing. The reichenbach is my fav for frits etc with the 90 coe tube. I am using and testing a lot of the bullseye rod and frit. I am NOT impresed with the frits and the white burns, but I am loving some of the other colors.

I put in an order today for 25 lbs of the chandelier tubing, cant wait to try it out myself. Will let you know how that goes.

as for working in the hot head..... it might be ok with soda lime galsses that dont reduce, like moreti etc, but the 90 coe tubing reduces easily. I have not tried any of this on a hot head and cant make a reccomendation, but if you try it and get results let me know how it goes, I am curious.

If you are using 15mm tubing you will only be able to get 6 stripes around the tube instead of 8 for bigger tubing. This is standard wall glass and you will get ornaments maybe 3 inches across instead of 4 or 5. I do prefer the 15mm tube for making the medium and long ornaments, I like the scale of them more and they hang nice on a tree.

Ok off to bed with me, had PT this morning a doc appt and a stuent for 4 hours, I am whipped.

Thanks Candice,
I am going to maybe order a little of the chandelier and the sign tubing, what the heck. It'll be fun to learn and practice. My goal is to make some for my tree this year and if any are good enough some "gifties."

There is a 1/2 day class being taught locally doing these in early dec so that will help me learn as well as the Tut.

5 bucks a pound for the chandelier glass..... kinda pricey when the sign tubing runs a bit over a buck a pound... but would be nice to be able to use some of the 104 colors.

Great News!!!!!

I got a call from my computer gal this morning, I should have the final proof of the tutorial in my mailbox tonight. I will look it over, proof read it, and give her the OK to make it into a pdf file. Hopefully that will be in my inbox tomorow sometime. Once I have it as a PDF I will toss it up on the web page with a password, and we are ready to go.

WHEW!!!!

Remeber I am having that myelogram tomorrow , so I will be down at least 24 hours. I am expecting to release the tutorial sunday or monday. HOpefully sooner.. but wil have to see how it goes, and how much I can sit up and for how long over the weekend.

I am so excited.. and do apologize for this thing being a week later than I expected.

I feel like and expectant mom now.. I have been doing the labor pains, and my water has broken, and now we wait for the baby to arrive.. I sure hope you think my baby is pretty.....

Very Cool, I have been watching this thread with anticipation. I think this is perfect timing. Enough time before Christmas to get supplies and to make some goodies.

I am so excited.. and do apologize for this thing being a week later than I expected.

I feel like and expectant mom now.. I have been doing the labor pains, and my water has broken, and now we wait for the baby to arrive.. I sure hope you think my baby is pretty.....

Candice
Wishing you all the very best for your procedure tomorrow, Candice. Just remember, if you get nervous, we're all here holding your hand!!!! OK?

And, don't forget, when it comes to pretty babies, it's all in the genes!!! With a Momma as gifted and lovely-spirited as you, your "baby" will surely be a star!!!

Warmest hugs and well wishes!
DeAnne
