glass rod preheating stand
Hi all,
I am looking to buy or make a frame that will hold some glass rods in the back of the flame to preheat while I am working on another bead. I know I have seen these before but am having no luck finding one to purchase...or better yet to build something that will work that I can make perhaps...
Can any one point me in the right direction please?
Thanks much Becki

I have the one in the link above. Got it from Roberto Dona while I was in Murano so got a bit of a deal on it compared to buying here. Love it.

I bought a Gold 'N Hot Professional Ceramic Heater Stove. I never have any shocked or flying glass when I use it.

I had one of these but they gave out a lot of heat. More heat while torching wasn't great for me, but I know a lot of people use them.

There are several less expensive versions out there. I've thought of getting the Brad Pearson Mandrel Support for $25.95 from Arrow Springs. Use just one for supporting a mandrel, or use two to hold glass up behind the flame to preheat. For now, I just use the top of my kiln, or stick a cane a couple of inches in the kiln door. It works fine for most glass, and if the other end of the glass is too warm to hold, use the silicon(e?) finger grabbers from dollar sales.

I have an old plate warmer for buffets. It is flat glass and about 2 feet wide and the whole thing gets hot. I just lay my rods out on it. Sometimes I still have certain glass be shocky. Particularly if it is cold outside. but it works wonderfully - i can also use to warm my murrini.

Not really, divarti sells a modified one but it dosen't really do a proper job.

I use a insert from a angel food cake pan, and put in on a hot plate. it's great as the "hole" keeps glass rods in place and the edges keep murrini warm

There's the George Foreman grill too - works like a hot plate would. You can close it on your rods ends too.
