Default paragon sentry express controller

I think I am going to have to replace my controller....is this difficult to do? Has anyone else done it?

Hi Julie,
When my sentry controller went on the fritz I called Paragon and they figured out all I needed was a new thermocouple, a cheap fix. I don't have their number anymore, but it should be easy to find on the net. A phone call could save you a couple of hundred bucks.

Thanks I will be calling them on Monday. Fortunately I have a small backup that is getting me by right now. Let's hope is the least expensive fix!

If you replace it with a different controller. Just make sure the replacement is all the same voltages for the power requirements of the controller and what ever type of relay your kiln has in it.
So If your kiln and controller uses a transformer to power the relay you need to get a controller that has switched relay output for the main relay in the kiln.
or If the controller has its own internal transformer. like 12v dc or 24v dc out put. thats got to be matched.

Then if all the specs match up on what ever controller will replace the old on. Swapping it out should not be to hard.
1. Power inputs going in to the controller to power it.
2 wires that control the main relay in the kiln.
3 thermocouple wires.

The shape of a replacement controller might Be a tiny problem. if the new on is smaller then the old opening. Then in that case you would probably need to take a PCs of thin sheet metal of some sort. that you can cut out a hole thats the right size to fit the new controller in the center of the sheet. Then screw it down over the old hole.

Hopefully you don't need to replace the entire controller. Chances are its a relay or the thermocouple.
But if it is the controller thats shot. Its not that hard to swap out a new on. Its a lot easier then going from scratch.

Thanks JJ,
I called Paragon and right now they think it's simply the relay. They are going to send me one today and I'll know in a few days.
