Question what Oxygen concentrator for LYNX should I get?

Hey - I am looking for a good oxy concentrator that can support the Lynx. I've been hearing about Hurricane, H1, and Devilbliss. Does anyone here have any experience with these or can recommend something else?

Also, how long did it take to get the concentrator delivered?

Thanks so much!

Lina

I used an Onyx+ for several years on my Lynx (then Lynx centerfire on a Phantom). I was really happy with it. No clue on delivery time.

I run my Lynx on a Regalia and just love it. Plus, Kimberly's customer service is awesome!

+1 for the Regalia and Kimberly.

I run the center fire of my Phantom (a Lynx) on a Regalia and it works great!

I bought the new 20 psi OGSI-20 at the gathering and let me tell you it is amazing. I truly believe it runs the lynx center fire on my phantom better then the tank did.

Also if you have a OG-20 there is a conversion kit for $60.00 thats easy to do yourself.

Default Scott ? on the OGSI 20

Scott,
Appreciate you mentioning the OGSI 20.
What do you mean by conversion kit for $60.00?

Did you ever compare your electric difference in cost?

Thanks,
Cliff

Chart from GTT for specifications to run torches for largest useable flame,
I just bought a M20 from oxygen unlimited to run my bobcat, bigger than what I need but thought maybe someday I would upgrade to the lynx.

FUEL PSI OXY PSI Fuel CuFt/Hr* Oxy CuFt/Hr Fuel LPM* Oxy LPM
Cricket ¼-5 5-10 2 12 1 5.5
Bobcat ¼-5 5-10 2.5 18 1 8.5
Lynx 5-8 10-15 3 20 1.5 9.5
Cheetah 5-8 20-25 5 28 2.5 13
Phantom 10 35 12 35 5.5 16.5
Mirage 10 35 18 55 8.5 26
Delta 10 35 20 65 9.5 35
Delta Mag 20 80 43 115 20 54
GLASS TORCH TECHNOLOGIES FLOW RATES

*THE FUEL USED IN TESTING ABOVE WAS PROPANE AT THE
RECOMMENDED PRESSURES FOR THE TORCH SPECIFIED. NATURAL GAS CONSUMPTION IS APPROX. 2.5 TIMES THE AMOUNT OF PROPANE LISTED.

CuFt/Hr CUBIC FEET PER HOUR

LPM LITERS PER MINUTE

All flow rates are approximate numbers and have been rounded to the nearest usable measurement. Flow rates are measured using the largest usable flame the torch will produce. Actual usage will depend on the type and size of flame that is run and actual usage is usually much lower than the published numbers. These numbers are provided to calculate the amount of fuel and oxygen needed to provide the largest usable flame at any given time.

Okay chart didn't post like it was supposed to but if you would like it pm me with your email address and I will forward it to you

Looking at their website unlimitedoxygen.com their Respironics Millennium modified M20 is $500 and should be enough to run a Lynx and they have a 3 year warranty. Just ordered mine and so I don't know anything else beyond what is posted in the sale rack and their web site. Was told 10 day wait. Hopefully it was a good choice, for me if it last 3 years and I still want to do this I will make a bigger investment then.

My advice: don't get one that's 'just' enough. Get one that's 'more than' enough. There is absolutely no disappointment in 'more than' enough...unlike 'just' enough.

The conversion kit for the OGSI-20 will turn the the older OG-20 models into a 20 PSI unit. Simply by changing out some hoses.

The Regalia uses half the electricity the OG20 does to make a comparable amount of oxygen (actually more oxygen, the Regalia produces 21 CFH, the OG20 produces 20 CFH).

The Regalia is also much quieter than the OG20 and does not produce fluctuations in the flame.

The Regalia is a great match for the Lynx, performance-wise.

They usually ship out within three business days (more often sooner) of an order being placed and the time in transit is generally 4-5 business days to most places (shorter if you live close to California).

Hi,
I would say it depends what you do really. For soft glass and beads and small pendants concentrators are perfect. For Boro bigger mass like sculptures with big bodies, bigger marbles or else tank may be better.
I have the Lynx on 2 EX-15 and was happy. Always wondered tough if I was not running it less than it could have been.
Now I just got a Phantom and hooked it on 3 Ex-15. Not good for sculptures. It is almost slower than the Lynx at bigger boro mass and the flame fluctuate to reducing everytime the oxycons breath when I run iner and outer fire!
I searched and found out the problem is that oxycons don't have as pure oxygen but mostly can't build the pressure needed. Ok, a Phantom is quite different than the lynx, but still... the principle is the same. So I think it depends what you do. Oxycons are very convenient, no hassle, cheaper to run and you are autonomous (don't rely on a company) and you can't run out! I love them and didn't want tanked oxy at all...
But feeling I was missing so much on the Phantom and making my horse sculpture is sooooo sloooooowwwwwww I decided to give it a shot. I got the tank today and the tubings. Tomorrow I will hook the outer fire to the tank and keep the center (Lynx) on the oxycons. I will post the results. I also have found that running the center fire (Lynx) on the 3 ex-15 it was better... even if according to specs it is overkill. It was not a huge difference but it did make a difference.

Something I should mention is that there are huge differences among concentrators. They are not all created equal!

If the concentrator's purity is low, it won't matter how forceful the flame or big, it will not be as hot as a flame fed with higher purity oxygen. In some cases, a smaller flame with higher purity oxygen will be hotter than a larger flame with lower purity oxygen.

Oxygen purity also affects your flame chemistry and the colors you are able to work with and achieve. Any machine can allow you to work reduction colors, since all that requires is a lack of oxygen. Only machines that deliver good purity can give you clean non-reduction and oxidized colors.

My top picks for concentrators to run a Lynx (in order):

Regalia
reconditioned Integra 10 (from Pyronamix)
reconditioned Invacare 10 LPM 9 psi version (from Pyronamix)
two 5 LPM DeVilbiss machines tied together (from Pyronamix)
AirSep 8 LPM 20 psi (from Pyronamix)
single DeVilbiss 5 LPM machine (from Pyronamix) if you are doing soft glass beads less than 1" and small boro, some people start with one of these and add another machine later

I qualified my opinions with reconditioned machines from me (Pyronamix) because not all used machines are equal, either. A properly reconditioned machine will perform better longer than a used one that has not been reconditioned or one that has been improperly or incompletely reconditioned.

Gosh - thanks so much everyone!!!!
I really appreciate everyone's input.
Sounds like the Regalia is what I'm looking for. I work with boro and definitely will need one that works just as good or better then the tank.

Who is the best "dealer" for this? .. and what can I expect having to pay for it?

I ran a lynx just fine with two 5lpm machines ... about $250 a pop ... couldn't do huge things but for small marbles, beads and pendants it was perfect .... after 8 years those same two machines are still running Heathers Piranha just fine. Nice to have other options if money "is" an issue GL!

Default How was the M20 with the lynx?

Diane, I'm wondering whether you got your concentrator and how it was? I just got a lynx *yay* and am getting really sick of the oxygen tank dance + continual outlay of money.

Thanks,

Bett
