Default Puget sound bead makers, next Fire and Rain Meeting June 11

Hello members and future fire-and-rain members. Time to mark your calendars for the next meeting.

1) Next Fire-and-Rain meeting:
Time and Place:
Sunday, June 11, 2006, at 2:00 at Pratt at 1902 S Main Street, Seattle
For the website and directions go to: http://www.pratt.org/. The phone number for Pratt is (206) 328-2200.

a: June 11 meeting coming attractions:
Bead release: love it or hate it -- when is bead release your friend and when is it your foe? Do you have a favorite recipe? Do you have tricks for removing it? Have you ever tried magic power degreaser? Or is there really a way to clean beads without drilling or scrubbing?

b: Safety: Danger with propane tanks indoors, eye protection, respirators, chairs, table height arm rests, fuming the bead and not your lungs (and other dangers with metals), acid reflux and ventilation, and from stretching to breaks to drinking water.
c: Demos: bring eye protection and enjoy
d: Bead exchange: bring a bead in a bright summer sunny color
e: Frit exchange. If you are interested in participating bring a tablespoon of each color you want to trade in a baggie, labeled with the color. You get to pick the same number of packs that you brought. (If you bring 3 to share, take home 3 to try.)
f: Snacks: Last names A through M please bring a beverage and those with last names O through Z please bring a snack of some sort.

2) Review of last meeting: Many many thanks to Jade from Hot Glass Color and Supply and Cyrena from Seattle Glassblowing for hosting our April meeting. The studio and shop are fabulous -- and the shopping opportunities were phenomenal. Jade gave an inspiring talk about the use of Kugler glass with other glass.... and showed us some exciting intense pinks and purples that do not devetrify. We discussed the effect of different types of flames and that red will turn to brown when placed directly on top of white -- lead and cadmium don't mix. We had a number of items for a raffle and earned $96. We are officially an ISGB chapter and as of moments before the April meeting we had 18 paid members.

3) Local Glass Happenings:
Pratt auction preview party Friday May 19 from 6-9.

OPEN HOUSE: Come join Rene at Art by Fire in Ballard on June 25th for
fun, games and torching. Details to follow.
