I actually use a mead roller as I'm blowing into the tube. It takes practice to hold the roller, turn the hollow mandrel, and blow into the tube all at the same time

Oh, thanks 😄. Don't you just love all those auto corrects when you type something and the computer changes your spelling to something it thinks is better.

What is your favorite size hollow mandrel? I made one on one I had sitting around and it was fun. Want to buy a handful or so of the mandrels but wondered what the best size and cheapest source are. Thanks.

This is a mistake (back side too thin) but this is totally doable. Have a kiln with a few annealing right now! Much more fun than my last year's glaskolben.

It's round! You're more than halfway there.

I have been lamp working for what, 6 years now and have never batch annealed but I can see how it would be handy this time. Can someone tell me how they would go about a batch anneal of these suckers? I can just see spending weeks making enough and having them all break because I do something stupid.

and would I have to cool them in a fiber blanket? If so I will have to buy one because mine is in my kiln is chunks.

I'd try the batch annealing, but definitely using the blanket or annealing beads. It would be OK except you have glass around a stainless tube with different rates of contraction. If they were just blown and nipped off a blow tube, you could probably get away with just setting them on the workbench, all the glass would be thin enough to cool at a comparatively equal rate.

Yeah that scares me. I will probably keep firing the kiln as I torch. I don't want to have them weaker than glass balls already are.
