Default Questions about lending library policy

For those of you that belong to lampworking groups and have lending library that lend tools, would you share your policies with me. My group has a lending library and are just starting to purchase and lend tools to our membership. Our first tool will be a bead core liner that will cost about $300.
We are wondering how long should the tool be lent for? If the tool is damaged, are there repercussions. Please share and thank you!

We require the lendee to leave a check for the cost of the tool. The tool should be returned the next meeting. If not, we contact them and remind them to return the tool. If not returned at the next meeting, the check is cashed and the lendee becomes a tool owner. So far, all tools have been returned.
