Default New Gaia Technique

The beads are in the listing below and here is the technique
http://cgi.ebay.com/Artwear-Lampwork...742.m153.l1262

OK one of my foibles is that I just can't keep doing the same thing...I am always thinking of what I can do that is different.

Well there I was admiring the beads of one of my favorite beadmakers...
Naos...

and I thought...hummmmmmmm silver plum...I started nodding my head and
I thought sure...I need to try gaia over silver plum.
And I did.

Now there is one secret to this...Unlike the normal guide for reducing gaia...
you will have to ACTUALLY reduce it.

I have a reducing flame that is about 1 inch at the longest... (this is pretty characteristic of how I reduce everything...)

And I dance the bead just beyond the end of the cones.

Definition of dancing...

I am twirling the mandrel ( a lot easer to do with you work the middle the way I do) Twirl and dance it thru ...don't hold it there...don't pass it ...twirl and make many quick passes ...take your time ...don't try to do it all at once.

With other reducing glass that is my generally way of passing the bead in the flame...I would rather build up the finish than blast it...

So try your silver colors OVER a silver color like ah..... silver plum!

Ingrid:

Wow, what a neat idea! Like has been said, you were true to your word and followed through and actually told us the real McCoy "how to" - that is so thoughtful and generous of you! I admire your work, which is lovely - I aspire to your integrity, which is stellar!

Warm regards from CA,
DeAnne

Those are soo cool! Thanks for sharing your tecnique! I love working the reduction glasses with a stringer of clear taped to the side and working in a reduction flame. Cool effect! Especially in vessels and hollows!

Ingrid, I am so glad to see you back on the forum! I learned a lot from your posts when I first started lampworking. You were always willing to share your knowledge with everyone. Thank you so much for another wonderful lesson! Maybe now I can consistently reduce all my yummy reduction colors...

Welcome back!

Default thanks for great tip

Thanks for the tip. I tried it using a base of dark silver plum with D.H. gaia, D.H. Kronos 2 & R4 monet. I got beautiful blues & greens for the first time. Normally these silver glass beads look abit mucky but not now. I think it was because I used your suggestion of "dancing & rotating" the bead in the reduction flame. Thanks.
