Default Code requirements for tanked oxy (Seattle, WA)

I want to upgrade from an oxycon to bottles soon, and I want to make sure my setup is safe and code-compliant. Right now the propane is stored outside in a sheltered enclosure and piped inside through black pipe. I'm trying to figure out where to put the oxygen, assuming it needs to be away from the propane and from outdoor appliances like the water heater.

I consulted the person who services my water heater and furnace and his advice didn't instill much confidence. He said that there's no consistent code in Seattle and that requirements for propane and oxy are pretty much up to the whim of each neighborhood's inspector.

I hope the situation is less confusing than that, but I don't know where to find someone who will give me a definitive answer and no BS. Does anybody have recommendations for people knowledgeable in safe studio construction in Seattle, WA?

Knowing King County building people I assume there are some rules in place. That being said, King Co. goes by the standard US Building Code with very few exceptions. But local area inspectors have great authority and must be shown proof in 'the book' if they rule against what you know to be acceptable. I would suggest calling KC Building Dept and asking to speak with the inspetor for your area. Explain what you want to do and ask what the requirements are, in his opinion. All but one of them (So. King Co.) I delt with were knowlegeable and helpful. (206) 296-6600 before noon.
