Default Help with striking red transparent glass

I am having trouble with striking red. It is Effetre striking red transparent. I am working it for some time in the flame and it has a slight gold haze to it and is not transparent red in all areas. I know people will say work it high in the flame and try to not cook it so long. The problem is, what I am making takes about 45 minutes to do and it is so hard not to keep it in the heat too long. Any other suggestions or any help with any other transparent red glass that can take a lot of heat longer? I appreciate any help.

Karen

Laucha has a beautiful red transparent that doesn't need striking.

I second that! It's the best red IMHO.

I have better luck striking this colour (as well as the transparent orange and yellow) when I take the bead out of the flame and let it get really cool and then reintroduce it to the flame as you mentioned. So.... heat, cool, then heat gently again.

Striking Red isn't really a transparent color. It strikes to opacity, and if you get an even strike it should look like an opal glass.

To get an even strike, you can garage your bead when it's finished while you make your next bead. Then carefully remove the red bead from the kiln and reintroduce it to the flame, giving it an even heat. It should strike uniformly.

Lausha does make beautiful reds including one that stays transparent mostly.

Thanks everyone, I am going to get some red from Lauscha for sure. Will try the tips about striking.
