Default Remodeled Studio almost done

My stained glass studio is on the top floor of our garage. My Dh built the garage and I knew the upstairs would be mine.

The room is 18 ft by 18 ft. (now) Last June we started pulling the wall board off the wall. Had some serious leaks around 2 of my sky windows.Lots of dry rot as this was leaking for several years. We tried everything to stop the leaks. I ended up punching a hole in the wall and put a bucket under it when it rained.

Then one day the water ran down across the beam and started dripping on DH's 1939 Ford hot rod. Now we are going to fix the leak. This will be a good thing as we will add several square feet of useable space and I will be able to move my torch up there. Right now I torch in an unheated, unairconditioned shed. The studio is airconditioned. This is a pic of the "before" studio.

The damage

The roof is a 10/12 pitch so I really don't have any headroom on the sidewalls. The plan is to raise the roof and make a "shed dormer" type of wall. I will be able to walk right up to the 3 windows we install.

So here is the beginning of the demolition.

NOw the framing

Skipped the sheathing and tyvek. Here it is with windows and siding installed

This gives an idea about the room acquired.

The drywall and my orange spice paint. My friend tells me orange is the color of creativity......This should do it!

That about brings the remodel up to date. Tonight we did some leveling of the floor so Dh can start tiling along one wall that will hold all my glass. Right now I have it stashed all over the studio. When I say glass I mean sheet glass. The tiling will be a big job as we have to do one side, move everything to the other side and tile that side. I did finish painting the east wall and worked on the mosaic over the sink.

Till next time....

Default WIP Sheet glass storage/vent

Thanks for all the kind words, I am just so ready to get this finished, started taking off drywall last June.

This thing is huge 8 ft long 6 foot high and built to withstand a hurricane. I finished painting it yesterday, all that is left is the trim and attach the end piece. Then we can move all the glass to one place, make some other changes like put in base cabinets where the glass was. There is also about 20 sheets of glass in another storage area. It will be so nice to have it all in one place and do an inventory to see what I actually have.

Once the base cabinets go in we can start tiling that side of the room, then move everything to tiled side and do the other.

Almost forgot the very first thing that went in was the vent system, don't have the make up air vent in yet. Just a matter of time.

Wow, that is going to be a great space! Can't wait to see it completely finished and the glass stocked up!

Good luck with the rest!

Thanks and me too! I have spent the better part of the last 2 days washing the glass (dreaded drywall dust and cobwebs) and doing an inventory. I found glass I didn't even know I had. Soon as I get it stocked I'll take another picture.

Now this is sad, lonely glass

Wow...that studio is going to be Awesome! The old one wasn't so bad either though. I like your work bench for the stained glass stuff.
The orange is really cheerful too!
Can't wait to see more pics

Default Time for an update

We're almost there. Here are the catch up photos.

Bases built, tops not attached yet.

Tops on, we used MDF, I coated it with about 4 layers of polyacrylic. This area will be dedicated to stained glass, mosaics and other crafts, I paint too. The white thing at the end of the table is the top of my light box, is now inlayed.

You can see the tile being set, working on the border.

Border tile all set and everything grouted.

I didn't take any pics of the floor being tiled, trust me there are 320 of them, DH layed them I did the cutting and grouting.

This is a mosaic that has been in evolution for years, I finally finished it.. There is a piece of glass from almost every student I taught stained glass. And just fun stuff.

Tomorrow DH will plumb the hard line for the propane and install the return air under the bench. Then hopefully this week end he will get my torch installed and start on my glass storage

I am getting so excited it's ALMOST done!

Thanks ya'll for all the kind words. This has been a dream come true for me. Tonight DH plumbed the propane in and installed my Creation Station. Tomorrow he will put the return air in. Need him to build the rod storage yet, and put up some shelves. More pics coming as soon as I can clean up there, paint cans, lumber and boxes and boxes of stuff needing a home.

Default Basically done

I am thrilled to be able to share these next pictures. The studio is done except for a small punch list, and DH will get to that this weekend. I just couldn't wait to share these.

I JUST LOVE IT!!!!

Default It Is Done!

IF you want to you can take a look at the whole process.
http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v6...albumview=grid

This took 16 months from start to finish. Now I can get back to business! I recently retired from nursing so am planning on living in the studio! Whoops can't do that, no potty. That is the only thing I don't have. It makes me take a break, seems like once I am up there the world ceases to exist. Life is good.
