Michael Barley - New Tutorial-Hanabi
Greetings,
It seems appropriate to offer my new "Hanabi" Tutorial for the 4th of July. Hanabi is the Japanese word for firworks. The translation is "fire flower". The tutorial is 25 pages long and explains in detail how I make and apply a variety of canes to achieve the beautiful colors and effects in the beads posted here. Here is the link to my website to order.
http://www.barleybeads.com/linktutorialhanabi.htm
From my website, use the "Click Here" link to purchase the tutorial. After payment is made, you'll be able to immediately download the tutorial.
These beads are made only with basic colors from Effetre. I use silver leaf to essentially create my own silver glass, but I don't use any silver glass that you have to buy.
Thank you very much and have a safe and fun 4th.
Michael

Very cool, thank you!
I just loved your cane tutorial - I have received a huge amount of inspiration from it. I am looking forward to seeing what this one makes me dream of doing.

Hi Barb and Melanie, Thank you very much. I hope that you have fun with the techniques and I look forward to seeing what you come up with.
Debbie, in response to your question about silver glass, no, you don't need to use silver glass. I have very little experience with the silver glass that everybody is using these days. I guess I've been making my own silver glass for the last twenty years by using silver leaf to create interesting effects. That's partly what this tutorial explains. You'll learn how the silver leaf reacts with various colors to give some amazing results. Almost all of the glass that I use is Effetre and with a few exceptions, I'm still using the basic colors that they have been making for years. By blending colors and adding silver, the results can be really interesting and I haven't exhausted the possibilities yet. But basically, I'm too cheap to spend the money on silver glass.

The tutorial is great!
I've always wondered how Michael can create such a pink color. Now I do know!
The bead in the middle is an original Michael bead! My beads are on the left and on the right side. I love the colors I got, but my "fireworks" are not yet real, I do need more practice.

Hi,
Thank you very much everybody.
Martina, great job on the beads. You are getting some beautiful colors in your Hanabi. Keep experimenting. I look forward to seeing other colors that you come up with.
Michael
