Wisdom Sought for New Kiln
Hi guys!
I am new to this game and am setting up my first studio after choosing this to be my path after retiring from teaching.
My request is simple: I am getting ready to try my new Blue Bird kiln and have gone through all the product information which, although I do speak English, was a bit tedious. I am hoping to get a few words of wisdom before I break it in.... I don't think I need kiln wash, in fact I don't think I need to do anything. However, I figured this was the go to place just in case I am VERY WRONG! lol
Should I plug it in and just go?

Kiln wash is not necessary, but it would likely help save your shelf if you have a programming oops and a bead melts down in the kiln.

Wisdom Sought for New Kiln
Hi Cindy,
welcome to LE! I got my first kiln - also a blue bird - about a month ago and had the same doubts. After reading all the threads I could I plugged it in and programmed it. Held my breath and... worked perfectly first go! Didn't use kiln wash. There are so many great tips on here. Good idea to read the safety thread too for great advice on kilns and general studio safety. Jump in and have fun with your new toy

Kiln wash, or lay some fiber down. Better safe than sorry if a relay whacks out during a long anneal!

Thanks to everyone for responding! I think I'll play it safe and go with the fiber option. Mostly, I am going to stop hesitating and enjoy the toy. That was wonderful advice! Still a couple weeks away from propane... so I went to Lowe's and got a couple more bottles of MAPP gas. lol
