Default Kurt Merker Lathe

I'm interested to find if anyone is engraving their beads? I've taken a class with Pavel and Martin and just completed a class with Max Erlacher (famous engraver of Steuben Glass). I would love to have a Kurt Merker Lathe....too expensive to import from Germany....ideas...thoughts?

I have never heard of that but we tend to use titanium pens to inscribe on top of the glass, rather than etch into it if we decide to sign something. Marbles, for example, are often signed. Mine is a Ti Scribe Pen made by Ed Slawson of Playing with Fire! They advertise here on LE.

I'd be interested if you get anything figured out. It's something I hope to be able to do eventually.

I'm sure there is. Do these lathes use diamond bits, some sort of normal metal bit and a grit slurry, or what?

There are some DIY glass lathes shown on the http://diyvacuumtubes.com/ forum. They may be of some interest to those of you looking for a glass lathe design.
