Lightbulb Lecture on Murano and her inspirations by Ofilia Cinta at BSGC meeting, 2-13-13

Please allow me to toot my own horn here....... I've had the honor of being invited by the Bead Society of Great Chicago (BSGC) to do a 45 minute lecture on Murano and how it has become my muse.

Well, I prepared an abundance of images to show at the lecture and hope that if any of you are in the area, you can come to join us. If you are not a member of BSGC, there is a $5 attendance fee they collect for their society. Anyone is welcome to come to the lecture!

Here is the location details:
Wednesday Feb 13.
Meeting 7–9pm
VFW Park Post 3579
10 West Higgins Road
Park Ridge, IL 60068
This is at the NW corner of Higgins and Canfield right off the Kennedy at Canfield. Parking off Canfield behind the building.

Here is what they wrote about my lecture in their newsletter:

Ofilia Cinta, lampworker and Venetophile
www.ofiliaartglass.com
Ofilia Cinta is a lampworker who’s
quest to learn more about the roots of
lampworking, lead her to travel to Murano,
Italy, to study with Lucio Bubacco back in
2002. What started as a once-in-a-lifetime
opportunity soon turned into a yearly
adventure to the land she considers the
Mecca of art glass. For someone who is
enamored by the glass arts, and knowing
some history of its evolution, connecting
to Murano came naturally. Add a thirst for
travel abroad and a desire to learn about
people and culture, it’s a match made in
heaven.
Bubacco had the foresight to invite to the
studio an array of lampworking friends to
do short demos for the students. These
became opportunities to get a feel for
the different talent on the island. This
fascinated Ofilia and inspired her to go out
and meet other artists and studios. This
broadening of encounters has continued
to blossom since that first visit.
Over the years, the student phase of
Ofilia’s travels turned into becoming a
recruiter for other students to turn them
on to the wonders of Murano. On nonclass
days, she organizes visits to furnace
studios, a mosaic factory in Venice, a
chandelier atelier, a mirror making factory,
gold foil making factory, and countless
lampwork artists personal studios.
Ofilia will present a selection of visual
images that have become her permanent
memory keepers as well as bringing some
artifacts made by her talented array of
glass masters.

I'd love to see some of my ol' friends I don't get a chance to meet up with! Come join me and give me support. I'm petrified of public speaking but was inspired by a close friend to push myself outside my comfort box, and share this passion of mine with lots of eye candy.

If I lived closer I'd be there in a heartbeat! Nobody knows the glass world of Murano and Venice than Ofilia.

Hi Diane! Thanks, so much, that's so sweet of you.

It's really fun re-exploring my old notes, digging up some statistical data and merging it with my over 500 images of different aspects that have struck me most dear about Murano. At the core of every facet is a warm hearted Muranese whom I have the pleasure to call my "friend".

This lecture is dedicated to my good friend, Cleo Sanda, whom you had the fortune to meet. Her inner beauty was multiplied a thousand times by her outer beauty! She was truly a special person who touched many. She sadly passed away this November after a freak boating accident in the lagoon. She is my inspiration to step out of my comfort zone and spread the word to any who will listen.....

Here is Cleo
