Please learn from my mistake.......
Do you have one of these?
Well, I did but this is what it looks like now. I thought I could firepolish some murinni on it. I took my kiln up to 1350 and the tool turned into jelly......
The good news is I was doing the large murinni and I did not ruin much. I also had kiln wash on the floor of the kiln..... so it came off......
Just thought if anyone got the bright (stupid) idea to use yours like I did in the kiln, you would know it does not go past 1250 degrees.....
I did use it successfully the day before to 1250 but it was not hot enough to do a good firepolish so I was going higher.....

Its probably aluminum or a alloy of aluminum and some other low melting point metals.... By the way Aluminum melts at about 1400f. degrees....

Thanks for the info Dale.
I am getting out my hand held pyrometer and checking my kiln now that you gave me the melting point. I wonder if my digital pyrometer is off a little?

oh my....I hope you were not in the room at the same time. That looks like it would have sent some nasty fumes in the air.
So sorry it happened, but thank you so very much for the heads up!

I bet if you trying to do that on purpose you couldn't have gotten it to work, at least that's what would happen to me.
Glad both you and your kiln are ok.
