favorite base glass for frit beads?
I use opal yellow and copper green frequently as a base for frit beads, but I want to branch out. Other than white, what glass loves frit?

light turquoise makes a nice reaction, sometimes olive green or dk turquoise, depending on the frit

It is great to see what other people use as bases for frit. I love opal yellow and coppergreen but they get a bit pricey.

yes with lots of blends and also it is a good base for the faux boro stuff. Iris gold on Lt brown transparent or swirled with it.
eta to jelly by kelly--There are some other threads on this on LE somewhere...

There's a nice big thread called "show me your frit beads" that has a lot of pics, otherwise you could try the same words you used, bases for frit?

I found the frit thread and I have read the entire thing, I wish it said more about bases. My main concern is not wanting to get ugly reactions, of course I want pretty beads! I appreciate all of the imput, Thanks!

The only thing I ever got bad reactions with was ivory and dark ivory. But some blends do well with them. A lot of the frit sellers will tell you what base colors to use with what blend. Clear makes a good base a lot of the time too. Or clear and silver. I haven't tired any CiM colors with any frit yet personally.

Oh, I've made lots of ugly "mistake" beads! Ive got a whole box of them. I remember someone on this site once said that they never made a "ugly" bead. I just have a limited purse to buy glass at this time and I want to make the best choices. Thanks for all the imput!

Even with colors that can react with unexpected results you can end up with some nice beads.
This one is some reactive frit on Ivory.
I like the shadowing effect.

If you're using a reduction frit like DH Psyche or TAG Taxco, Effetre Mosaic Blue makes an awesome base for it; there is a gorgeous reaction between em:

Tongue pink is a great reactive base as well. It makes striking colors Pop!
I think this was Terra Frit.

It would depend on what look you're going for. You may be able to glean a bit of info from a study I've been doing on frit. You can see how the different colors look on White, Black, Ivory, Clear, and a mix I did that shows if there is a reaction with colors based on Copper (like turquoise or sky blue). That may help you in deciding a direction to take with finding your favorite color to work on.

There are 3 videos Amy made that will help you think of frit differently too not just by changing the base color. Enjoy!
