The second photo, bead on the right is a perfect Fire Opal execution in the colors - who knew you could use Terra to do it too!

Default terranova 2.1

weird that my current post only has one of the photos i uploaded, will try again. Jed at double helix said this about his other strking glass

Hi Sara,
I apologize for the delayed response. All of our Striking Colors are designed to work in a manner similar to Ekho. Getting the glass hot enough to "reset" is indeed an important step. My favorite striking colors are Terranova2.1 (regular and light versions), and Luna3. Both of these colors respond well to the "heat to reset, cool, gently reheat to strike" sequence. Other striking colors that work similar to Ekho are Terra, Terra2, and Khaos. We also offer a striking color assortment to enable you to try them all, including our clears, with a minimal investment. Feel free to email with any other questions you may have.
Thanks,
Jed at Double Helix

I really appreciate everyone posting their results, tests, & other glass to try with the results. I think I had every other Double Helix rods except Clio & Ekho. Thanks to all for helping me realize I most likely have something here that will give me the results of these gorgeous Fire Opals! Thanks to you big time Amber! You're so nice to share your knowledge.
Kudos to all,
ginger

I have a big one Amber! 2 inches long, 3 inches around. Excuse the blurry hand shot, I suck at holding a camera and snapping pics one-handed. Thank you again for this amazing tutorial, I never get tired of exploring this technique. I mentioned you on Facebook when I posted photos there too!

Thanks Amber for the tutorial on your fire opals. I have been away from torching for too long, so I was pleased to play with ekco (new to me) on my 1st day back and had so much fun with these..

the 1st one was done on black with silver..The 2nd one was over transparent aqua, encased with aqua.

do you think the "silver foil" on her first bead has turned golden (cheap way to get faux gold leaf, yay) because of extra propane in the flame? this has happened to me too.
AND
how do people get their company name in faint background script on their photos?? thanks

I think some of that gold tone is still the Ekho. The yellowing from fuming is not as bright IMO.

Naos is the one to know, but I can tell you that I get the gold color depending on what clear I use. When I used the lauscha, the silver stayed silver. When I use the VSC I get the gold.. Love these so much!

Cherri, that's funny. I only use the Soft Clear from Lauscha and I don't have gold fuming but I do get the gold tones - that's why I think it's from the Ekho.

I hear you.. LOL I agree. I just noticed that I got gold color from the echo yes, but with the other clear the all of the silver turned a gold color.. Sort of neat actually. I will try and post one.. The one I posted further up in this wonderful thread was Lauscha. The ones I have now have the VSC.. Just saying..

Sara, I use photoshop but I bet other proggies have the capability.

Type your name on the photo

Find the 'opacity' and change it, it usually defaults to 100%. I usually use mine at 30%

Then in layers I use 'merge visible' to turn it all into a single image.

I had my first try of these last week, I found it really easy to follow, thanks Amber! Results a bit iffy though, I think too much foil and not enough Ekho!

I'll try and work out how to post a photo.....
