Default Kiln Temp for BE versus Moretti

I use Moretti mostly but I am just starting to try BE. I read a posting that stated you may have to crank the kiln temp up a little for BE. Right now I start at 970, 60 mins to go to down to 850 , 15 mins at 850, then off. Does anyone know if I need to start at a higher temp than 970 for BE?

A totally different topic. I didn't know Thompson Enamel sold frit. I've been making my own but I really want to purchase some now. I noticed they have frit for COE 104 or 90. And I noticed that Arrow Springs has BE frit. Is there any advantages to buying BE frit to use on BE versus Thompson frit for BE?

Thank you!

970 is just fine for BE.

I think the Thompson product you are referring to is actually enamals, just in different sizes. The Arrow Springs frit is just BE glass.

There are Thompson enamels for 104 coe, and Thompson enamels for 90-96 coe. They are not cross-compatible. That is, you can't use the 104 enamels on bullseye without a compatability problem, and vice versa.

BE frit can be used on BE, not on Moretti or other 104 coe glass. Some of the Reichenbach/Kugler/Zimmerman glass works well as frit for BE. If you're doing this combination, you really need your garage and soak temps to be 970.
