Default Vinegar etched my bead? (Effetre 441)

I had my beads soaking before cleaning the holes and kind of got sidetracked. They were in a mixture of vinegar & water because one wouldn't come off the mandrel & I was hoping that might do the trick (it didn't, must be welded to it), but they sat in it for at least 24 hours, maybe a good bit more (I lost track).

So I finally went out & got my reamers and cleaned the holes today. All except one were fine. The goddess bead I'd attempted is dull in places, still shiny in others. I just figured I'd mention it to see if anyone else had had a color that did similarly.

I am going to etch this one to see if it looks stone like, which might be pretty good - or not!

I had the Pink 068 etch in vinegar before. It was in for a couple days.

I wonder what ingredient is in there that is reacting. I know on my bead some areas didn't and some did, so I'm just curious. Also I hope I remember these colors so I don't do it again. Thanks for responding.

I suspect that you have patches of devitrification showing up. Some pinks devit easily (think EDP lite). Acetic acid, especially mixed with water, won't etch glass in that time span, if at all.

Not sure, it wasn't like that out of kiln but it looks like I etched it. It's an old bead, I'll try and find it.

Interesting that you mention that, about etching. I made a frog bead and left it in for 5-10 min in white vinegar and water, - Moretti opaque green pea etched.

It does look like devit, it just didn't show up before the soak, at least to the same extent
Before.

After.

I'm going to go out & paint it with etching creme & see how she changes, for better or worse.

Cool I like the etched look on the goddess bead. I just soaked a bunch of clear rods in vinegar overnight to see if id get an etch. They turned out nice and clean with no bubbles or scumming.

Steve, nothing else I had in there looked any different, just this one, so I assume it was the glass. This glass must have a good bit of copper in it by the sparking it was doing when it got hot.
I forgot to go out & get my etching creme, but soon...
