Default Hood Height

Could one of you experienced wonderful lampworkers please tell me what the approximate distance should be from the TOP of my work bench to the BOTTOM of my ventilation hook? My studio is 12 x 20, I am going to hook up a nortel minor and my ventilation hook is 760 CFM or 600 CFM, (I'm not at home to look and it has been a while since I bought it) I don't think this matters anyway.
Thank you for any help anyone can give me.
Tippy

It should be as close to your work surface as practical.... Meaning you do not bang you head on it as you work at your torch....

And yes fan/blower size does matter... IF there is not though air flow your ventilation is useless.... It will not perform or remove the very combustion by products that is the health hazard you are trying to avoid....

Thank you for the reply. So I guess about 24" to 30"?
And yes, I didn't exactly mean it doesn't matter. Don't you need a fan based on the size of the building?

Fan size is bases on "face opening" size of hood.....

Where should the front of the torch be relative to the front of the hood? Does it need to be under it or is a few inches back work as well?

It can be outside front edge, the forces of the the combustion will push the gasses forward and the natural tendency to to point torch a bit upwards and for hot gasses (plume) to rise the hood will capture most of the combustion by products...

I just put mine together and I run a Cricket. I think I have settled on 24". I say think because I put together a box to try out before I had one made from sheet metal. My torch sits outside the box and the box is 24" deep but the counter its on is 30" deep. And so I ramble. lol.

That's an interesting hood. What is it made from and do you have bigger pics?

Its made from sheet metal and electrical conduit, and no I don not have any bigger pictures.... There was a gentleman in Texas that was going to manufacture them but one day the was a "poop" fight on WC with him and a few others, and he became so disgusted with the lampwork scene he just walked away....
