Best non scummy, non bubbly black?
I need to order black. What is the best? I am on oxygen concentrators. I keep getting lots of bubbles in my black.

Boiling bubbles? Or are they in the glass already?

My black is not labeled, so I don't know what it is, but it is boiling as soon as it touches the flame. I don't see air bubbles in the glass. I assume it is probably user error. I had other black that did not do this though, I just have no clue where it is.

I like GA Raven and use it as black backing on regular basis.

Since you are running concentrators and most boro blacks require a lot of heat to work effectively I think it is safe to assume that your flame is probably somewhat reducing. Most boro blacks do not like a reducing atmosphere and they tend to scum and grey out. One of the best in this regard is TAGs Blackjack. It is actually a striking sable brown that is completely black when it is used in sufficient thickness. I use it for my marble backs and it is soft and easy to work and is somewhat resistant to reduction. Give it a try.

I love TAG night rider - it is not so stiff and stays black - very forgiving

Have no issues with NS-125. Just follow the instructions as posted on the NS website. Works well on both a Cricket and Scorpion IMO.

eclipse is a nice black. You need to work your dense colors in an oxy or neutral flame bubbles = reduction. Heat up your glass slowly at the end of your flame.

I must try Eclipse, I have been using Jet for years with no troubles. Just bought 3 more lbs of it, so will be a while. I had used black violet before switching to Jet because the last batch of it bubbled just as you described Cori, that might be what you have.

bubbles = reduction?
bubbles = either boiled glass or a bubble in the rod when it was originally pulled.
please correct me if i'm wrong, but i've never had bubbles from reduction.....

Corri I have some jet here if you want to try it. I'm in Chandler. I dont' have a lot of the other blacks, but that's only because I have had great luck with Jet. I work with a cheetah and 2 m-15's with tanked propane.

sometimes glass just comes with bubble's in it. Sometimes it is not user error, it is just a bad batch from the maker.
But then I don't know everything about everything.
