Default Sun City/Phoenix, AZ Lampworkers

I think it's finally going to happen. I sold my home in PA after 2 1/2 years. If all goes well I'll be moving back to AZ in five weeks. Several years ago, I was in contact with some people in the above areas. I would like to keep in contact with people in the area that can help me set up using natural gas (if possible) and in guiding me so that I can obtain larger torch and oxygen concentrator. I've only got about a year of actual lampwork and lessons under my belt, so I have a lot to learn. I'm hoping to find a new house and get into it by June at the latest...earlier if possible. I haven't touched my torch in 5-6 months, due to the weather (very cold in the unheated garage) and traveling....now selling the house means I'm going to have to pack up the set-up in the next couple weeks.

I wish you the best on your move. You may want to get in touch with Penny at the ASGB. There are quite a few classes lined up in the Phoenix area. There is also Alex at Sonoran Glass Institute in Tuscon. There is also Laurie Nessel at the Mesa Arts Center in Mesa.

Arizona SGB meets monthly at different members homes and sometimes other places, like MAC. We rove around the valley as much as possible so everyone shares in the drive one way or another. Usually we have a short business meeting, time to chat and nibble on goodies, and a demo or two. I think we're pretty nice, but I'm biased.

P.S. Here's an article from our local magazine on the ASGB.

I'll try to join you as soon as I can, hoping to get into the house within the next couple of weeks and then I'll need some guidance about setting up my torch again. I'm going to have to get some more electrical outlets installed in the garage where I'll have my torch. Mechanically minded, I'm not, my son set me up before and had me torn down before I had a chance to take photos of the set up.

I second checking out the Mesa Arts Center. I have been taking classes from Laurie for quite awhile and it is by far the best deal in town. A bit of a drive from Sun City though...you might even want to check out some of the similar communities in the east valley.
