"Holding Temp" for garaged components
When you make component parts for a complex 3-D sculptural bead, e.g., petals, stamen, etc. (with each part made separately, then garaged in a kiln, then all the components assembled together in the flame), what kiln temp do you hold the component parts at before final assembly. I asked Vicki (Sparklelover) and she said she holds just slightly under the movement temp for the specific glass used. I was thinking maybe that was overkill - that an temp of ~980F would be just fine. Right or wrong?

Bill, you can garage in the kiln at 980 and if the pieces start cracking when you introduce them to the flame, bump it up. You can also use a hot plate and leave the pieces sitting on that. Paul Stankard does his set up work that way... he's got a metal plate on a stove burner.

Thanks Brent.
There are so many "right ways" to do something in glass.
