Default New 104 Raku?

I spent a good hour encasing a honker bouquet bicone yesterday of my new raku 104, but it cracked in 2...2 perfect cabs. I tried to search, to no avail. Also the colors seem blah. Any opinions on the new stuff? love, Helen

If it cracked into 2 pieces isn't that a heat issue, not compatibility?

I use R-108 so much that I thought I'd try the new 104 raku. It's on it's way, so I'll be able to try it soon. I had heard others say that they weren't getting much color, but I hadn't heard of any compatibility problems.

Hi Helen! I'm so sorry that this happened to you! Wow, an hour of work went into this bead?? Sheesh....

I started a thread in Technical where we could voice our concerns and known problems with certain glass combos.

But I think that if yours cracked in perfect halves, it has to be a heat issue and not compatability. Why don't you try again with the combo, but make something a little smaller and easier to keep warm, and see what happens?

The first few I made were really blah so I set the glass aside till I had time to play with it more. I love 96 raku and rarely have a problem with beads cracking because I used too much on 104, so I doubt I'll do much with the 104. I really like the new Iris Blue (think that's the name) and pink though.

I tried it, but the colors I got was all poop colors. Not the lovely green, purple and blue hues I get with the 96 Raku.

I've used my 104 Raku with poor color results. I am pretty good at getting the old 96 Raku to sit up and dance! Not happy with it so far...

I made some custom Twisties for someone here on LE using the new 104 Raku. I had a real hard time COOKING it too. (When I sell raku and IB Twisties I cook them real well so the color has begun to process, (Normal Raku twistie and bead)
It helps when trying to bring out the color in a raku twistie bead)

Anyway, I used the 104 Raku Twisties in a few beads and I was NOT as happy as when I use normal 96 raku. I'll take a pic and add it here..

Here is a bead with van gogh twistie on top left side and 104 raku dots on bottom right. The base is purple haze from Firelady. I am going to try 96 and 104 raku on same bead next time.

Thanks Nagi! Not as bright as I get with 96 coe. Different, but still nice, I think!

Default 104 COE Raku

I love the 104 COE raku! All the beads with the colors (not the solid yellow or black ones, of course) have 104 COE twistie around the middle. The largest bead in this photo shows the colors the best, the greens and yellows and sometimes the blues.

I've got a couple. I'm still learning how to work either COE. So far I find I have a hard time deciding if I should keep the color or try to retain the shape.

Here are 2 I did with 104.
Not quite as lovely as those above, but we've all got our own style, right?
There is some purple blue and this like burgandy on the cross. It is prettier than the icky brown/tan and such I've gotten from the 96 so far. But not as light as the odd shaped one.
