identifying the coated side of dichroic
Hey Melters,
I have been trying to get into dichroic and while most of it on clear is easy to see which side of the glass has the coating, the one sheet I have is impossible to see which side is right.
Here is my first dichroic pendant.
I was hoping for the galaxy effect with an explosion of sparkle looking effect but I got this foil looking effect which is why I am thinking I did not apply the coating side of dichroic to the lens.
Any help would be appreciated.

Find a shiny pointed object - or a sharp pencil - and put the tip on one of the sides. If the tip of the reflection meets the tip of the object, that is the coated side. If there is a gap between the reflection and the object, it is the uncoated side.

To make galaxy pendant, I make 2 clear glass lolli pops. Apply dichro to one piece and cover with other lolli pop, heat into ball and twist 3 times. Melt off one rod, back with black, punty and melt of front and shape lens.
You did nice job of not scumming your dichro, I've scummed up more than I care to admit.

Just a note that the twisting part is what breaks up the dicro and can give some cool effects.

This is the easiest and best way I have found to identify the dichroic side....and it works!
Take your piece of glass and "breathe" on it with lots of "haaaaaaaah" - open moist mouth.
If it's the dichroic side, it will form a circle of moisture and not go away immediately.
If it's the regular glass side, the circle of moisture will evaporate right away.
