Stoopid dremel question
OK, so my good Dremel quit working. The base wont light up and charge the battery.
Question: is it most likely the charger or the battery?

Pluged in??? No offense but it happens.
Do you have a volt ohm meter that you can check the charger with?

It's handheld battery powered. The charger was plugged in. Tried more than one plug. No meter.

What David said. Do you have a volt meter that you can see if it's putting out power? If you've had the unit very long, it's possible that the battery has gone bad.

or just plug something else in the outlet so you can see if it is working.

I would invest in a voltmeter because they are handy to have around anyway. So many things are cordless and rechargeable these days.
Does anyone know how much one would cost, and the right kind for checking batteries and small appliances?? I tried to look online for you but for some reason I'm search impaired and found one for over $4000 at Walmart! That can't be the right one! They also have a set for $13.99, but I don't know if that is the right kind.

Small digital volt-ohm meters, very acceptable ones start around $20..... You can get cheaper like some for $3-$10 at Harbor Freight and a few other places but I don't have much faith in those.... For average home owner the lesser expensive ones ($20 -$50) are really good enough...
Radio Shack, Home Depot, Lowes, and most hardware stores have inexpensive ones in electrical/tools sections.....

When mine stopped working I discovered (by reading the manual, DUH) that you aren't supposed to leave the charging base plugged in once the unit is charged.

READ THE MANUAL???? Who ever heard of such a thing? I have a pistol-grip dremel that stays plugged in all the time. Maybe I should read the manual if I could find it.

The rechargeable batteries eventually die. This happened recently with our cordless drill and it was cheaper to buy a new drill.
