Default Is there a tutorial for...

This technique?

http://www.etsy.com/listing/76279466...ampwork-lentil

To clarify
  • I don't want to know how to make this exact bead
  • I just want to know how to do the stripy effect

So nobody get their knickers in a knot

My guess is a whole lotta lines of stringer melted in then raked and twisted.

I think it's encased stringer

But where are the ends? At the back?

And how do they end up so tightly together?

It might be ribbon cane done with encased stringers. Try Jennifer Geldard's tutorial.

That link won't work but it might be my iPad, do you mean the ornate bead tutorial? If so then, no, it's not the same I think

Opps! When I make my stripy beads I try to have them all end at the same place around the bead and then press it to where the ends are on the sides.

Ugg, wish the link wasn't broken. That's one cool looking bead. Wonder if anyone here has that tut saved somewhere? Would love to see how that's done.

The bottom of the bead on the right might be similar? I'm thinking of buying this one from Sarah Hornik.

They might but it would only be polite to ask her to repost it first

Thanks! Is a different result than the example I started with but now that's got my brain heading in a different direction

Deb, 1 of the pic on Kim's Color Archive, has a set of bead that looks similar (page 100). They are encased stringers.

I'm glad you asked about these Deb - I've been admiring them for ages.

Jennifer's tutorial is still out there via the Wayback machine: http://web.archive.org/web/200901220...ainbowdemo.htm

Hope it's ok to post this link.

Beautiful bead. Encased stringers. Reminds of the backgrounds that Harriet (Kybeadmaker) used to use in some of her florals. Jen Geldard's Rainbow cane tut is great for this. Tonbodama book has similar tut also but the stringers aren't encased.

So, it's not what I originally thought - individual encased stringer laid down one at a time - it's bands of ribbon

Interesting

Yes, Deb that bead is individual like Sarah. But the rainbow tutorial is building a flat cane.

I've admired these forever too. I tried it with loads of encased stringers but it didn't look anything like these. I wish he/she would make a tutorial on this technique. their style is definitely distinctive.

The rainbow cane tut is still on Jennifers site.
http://www.glassgirl.com/Jennifer_Ge..._Tutorial.html

I have Sarah's goldstone tut and it has a more detailed section on the ribbon cane bead.
