Default What do you do with your DH GS score?

I forgot I had managed to get in on the Double Helix garage sale and am now looking at a jackpot of silver glass. I was just wondering what most people do with it? Hoard it? Sell some and keep the rest? Laugh evilly like a mad scientist and then dole it out in small increments?

If you want to nudge me in a direction, I am not terribly experienced with the super-silver glass and don't want to waste it.

I'm not Robin, but I'm going to make a guess that it was a few years ago, when Jed and Julie relocated to the East Coast from the West Coast. They didn't want to haul gazillions of pounds of glass all that way so they made up "Garage Sale Boxes " and quickly sold out.

Robin, chime in and correct me if I'm wrong.

Hee hee hee. I scored two this past year (the 2016 box). I kept all the Zephyr 2nds. Some of every color I got across the boxes and sold off the balance (shared the wealth) at the same price I paid for it. ($10 a pound)

Others who were successful put some of the glass up for bid and got as much as they could for it.

Any color I tested and couldn't make sing. I sold off at a later date. But I still have alot of DH glass to play with ... swoon.

I got one last year, and I have melted some to see if it was striking or reducing (paddle, not bead) on many of them. Some I knew, such as Triton 3rds, Zephyr 2nds or 3rds (can't remember) Echo that was cut in half, etc. but some were test batches.

I got one this past year and kept what I wanted and sold two lots of the rest for a bit more than what I paid. I kept all the zephyr and all the Terra nova (as I have never tried it before).

I try not to hoard too much. I have some glass rods (not DH) I want to sell now, too, sitting on a table, but haven't gotten around to listing it anywhere. I am a procrastinator.

I sold a few rods of every color to help pay for the cost, shared happiness by giving some to lampworking friends, and am enjoying working with what I have left! I'm slowly becoming a DH addict and can't wait until I have more time to melt! The garage sale glass allows for learning silver glass skills without wasting a fortune of glass.

Do you mean the one with inclusions?
Maybe a test glass on the way to Ossa?

You might find information on some of the glass here: https://doublehelixglassworks.com/pr...tches-archive/

Maybe not the same exact test batch, but you can kind of get info from the ones that are in the same series.

I got one time before last.
I shared some and use the rest far more lavishly than I used to use the regular DH.

Some of it is inconsistent, some I cant get to work....but more than made up for by the lots that are FABULOUS.

Go to the doublehelixglassworks.com site and sign up for the newsletter. They email a notice out a few days ahead, and you have to be quick!
Also, they put a notice on their FB page when one is almost here.

And she means really quick. The number of boxes they have for sale can be snatched up in as little as 30 minutes or less so don't blink.

That fits the description, thank you! I wish DH would post pix of rods and not just test paddle. I get that many are beige and many more are black but it would help with ID.

I was very very tempted to try for a box at the last sale, but since I had scored one the time before I sat on my hands. It was extremely hard to keep them there though, LOL.

The purple nubby rod results are the dark background beads.

Ah ok, I thought recent. This one was the last time I almost smashed my laptop trying to get one lol. There was some weird error and I tried 3 browsers.

That was nice of you Eileen by the way. I really tend to feel sore when people buy multiples (and some only to resell) when some have tried to get one. But, that's a whole 'nother.

I think there are no pics because they're all different assortments correct? Or do you mean pics of the test batches?

Just hoping for bead porn but I have no idea if people got different assortments. I would think so.

Yeah, that's either Ossa or one of the pre-ossa test batches. Seriously yummy colors... Have you tried not encasing it, yet? A whole other universe of yummy colors.

(Chloe is a newer color to come out of that series - also seriously yummy. But if you have any of the translucent-white nubby rods (from i forget which Gathering, but i think it was the second round of those test batches?) in your stash, that one's my favorite of the lot... )

Just a note about the Ossa or Almost-Ossa: best to preheat the rod if you can. If not then heat very gently. It can spit hot glass that sticks to skin. (yow) Long sleeves are best even if it is hot outside.

Desi Cachia has an AMAZING blog chronicling her tests of many of the DH garage sale glass ~

I actually contacted DH and requested that; Julie replied that they had been talking about it and were in the process of a photo shoot and would try to work that in.

It won't help with everything - I've got several colors in my stash that look identical in the rod - but at least it would help narrow it down.

Your link didn't work so I used Google on it but only got the 2015 garage sale box. I have the 2016. Valuable info though, thank you!
