Default custom mandrels

I know I can get certain sizes at welding supply places but I need to know exactly what size welding rod I should look for if I want a 3/32 mandrel.
Thanks in advance

Duane

Welding filler rods will come as mm thickness or guage thickness depending on which country your in.
3/32 will be pretty close to 2mm and I think in the us you use guage which we abandoned here in australia some years ago but I think to find guage you divide an inch by the thickness and the number of times it "guzinta" is the guage, hence 3/32in will be close to ten guage. I would happily stand corrected if I'm not right, but I think that's about it. Terry

Terry, in the U.S., TIG isn't measured in gauge or mm. We still use inches. If you want 3/32 mandrels, you ask for 3/32 stainless TIG.

http://www.airgas.com/browse/product...144&WT.svl=144

Also available in one pound units. However, the price is a lot less if purchased in 10 pound boxes.

Their Randor band is usually stamped on both ends which decreases the overall usable length. However, Air Gas does handle Thermanit UTP65020 in 3/32 (316L) that has no stamp on either end. Higher priced than 304, but the entire length is usable.

I just ask for 3/32 stainless steel welding rod. Then the guy always asks me, "what's he welding?" I reply, "He isn't welding anything, I'm melting glass."
