Can you use an enameling kiln to anneal beads?
I was just wondering if you could use an enameling kiln to anneal glass beads. I cant afford a paragon kiln right now but i was thinking of using a Thompson Enamels kiln for annealing. Any suggestions or ideas?

If the kiln has had enameling work done in it, it is possible it may contaminate your finished glass. You'd have to do some testing with it to be sure. You can live without a bead door, and batch anneal with out a problem.

I use an old dental burn-out kiln. It's similar to an enameling kiln and it works just fine.
It helps to have a digital controller installed!

Probably... Basically you need a "something' with at least a pyrometer and it can reach about 1000°f. and control the temperature.
Got a picture, or a link to what Thompson Kiln looks like?

You can provided you can hit the temp, hold and cool it down slowly.
I have seen enameling kilns that you cannot control the cool down rate, which would cause a problem.

If a controller is attached it won't be a problem. You can buy them separately and install them yourself. My Dad made mine for me
Typical enameling temps are at about 1500F so that's not a problem either.

Yep, just manually go turn it down at a slower rate. Like drop it 50 degrees, wait half an hour, then 50 more, etc. Slow, PITA, but it'll work.
