Default So I have the flower presses. And flowers. Now what?

I just got several [Edited to add: dear friends, does it matter who made it, that's not the point] flower presses, and have been having a wonderful time making lots and lots and lots of flowers on copper wire. But now what? I know how to make beads, not jewelry. I found one thread showing pictures of flowers, but there's only a couple pictures of completed items, and even those I have No Idea how to assemble. Anybody have threads, tutorials, pinterest boards, anything, to help me actually turn these fun flowers into something?

Your flowers are beautifu! May I ask which numbers you got? I really like the transparent gold one on the far left. I like to put them in little vases or standing vessels. I think I saw a tutorial on making a necklace somewhere but will have to look.

I did the same thing, I have a whole jar full of them, and no idea what to do!! I love your leaves! How did you make them?

And the thought of copper wire, what gauge did you use, did you have to pickle to get the flame marks off? Great ideas, definitely following this thread!

They are devardi presses 13,14,15, and 17. I think the one you like, CathysCreations, is #15. I made them on 24 gauge copper wire that I found at our local big box home improvement store - they didn't have any other size, but it seems to work fine. The trick is just to always keep the wire out of the direct flame. After annealing, I pickle them, either in actual pickle solution (which, I found out, isn't actually related to pickles in the slightest) or in citric acid powder mixed into water, which takes longer but is completely food-safe. Then I take some fine steel wool and polish them up - it doesn't take much.

As far as the leaves, I just take green, and lay down some glass on one side of the wire starting 1/3 inch from the end, then turn it over and lay glass on the opposite side of the wire. Then I heat it up, always avoiding the wire, and press it with devardi's Leaf Vein Masher Pliers. I heat the tip of my leaf and pull the end off with tweezers to point it. My favorite glass for leaves is Reichenbach Mystic Green.

Also, the June 2013 issue of the Soda Lime Times has a couple of pieces that could be done with bellflowers. I wrote a tutorial for it called "Bellflower Cascade Pendant" but I bet you also do the flower lapel/stick pin that Patti Genack wrote with the bellflowers. You can see the photos of the items in the 2013 June SLT here:
http://www.sodalimetimes.com/tpg/TPG_0914.pdf (page 10)
And you can purchase it here for $6.95:

Oh, they didn't tell you? You are supposed to send the flowers to me. This will save you time on that pesky jewelry-making, too. =)

Jo (Frit Diva) has a tutorial too. I want it even though I don't even have a bellflower press.

Thing is, I need jewelry tutorials - maybe I should ask in that section. I know how to make the flowers - I have a whole field of the flowers! But I'm completely clueless when it comes to the jewelry piece.

I bought Jo's bell flower tut after making lovely bell flowers for year now. Jo's tut is so much more than just making bell flowers - it is an eye opener!

But it does not contain jewelry making techniques.

Turns out that googling "lucite flower tutorial" gets you quite a bit. Like : http://kimberliekohler.com/4678/flow...elet-tutorial/

Isaberg--that's a great out of the box idea!
Are you anywhere near Rochester?

Thanks you guys for the comments on my bellflower tut! I had a similar process when I first got mine, and the tutorial is about what else I came up with to do with the flowers... it's also available on Etsy~

Simplest thing, but can have pretty cool results: cut the wire to about half an inch. Make a loop (wrap the wire a few times around round nose pliers). Thread the loops.

get one of those straw wreaths from Jo-Ann's crafts and wire them all into the wreath - you can then sell the dang thing for about 500 dollars!

So now Devardi is making knock offs of Carlo Dona's tools? People are ok with this?

In the lampwork world, it's OK to knock off tools. But knock off a bead and that's a different story. I guess it depends who it hurts.

I have both and Devardi's flower presses are no where near the quality of Carol Dona's - nor is the resulting flower.

Nor is the price! I love the Devardi presses because they are affordable and they have many different flower designs. I'm "ok with" free enterprise and it saves us money. And I don't think the Devardi tools are an attempt to "knock off" the Carlo Donna tool, which doesn't even seem to be available. Many companies make flower presses, so why pick on Devardi? They are a good company with great prices and excellent customer service.
