Default Hothead or me problem

I have been using this hothead for a couple of years. I never had this problem before. My whites are now turning gray. I turn it down as low as it will go, but still gray. I bought a pencil torch which looks just like a hothead, but had problems with that, but I did try to the white and it did fine with the same tank of mappro container. Here is my question, I realize now my torch doesn't turn down low enough anymore. Does mappro burn hotter then propane does anyont think that would solve my problem or do I just need to go and get a new hothead.
Thanks for all your help.
Maggie

If your white is turning grey the glass is reducing(flame is too rich needs more oxygen), you need more flame not less, and try working further out in the flame. You may also need to clean your hothead, there was a recent thread about that. I'm strictly dual fuel, so my experience with a HH is limited, but grey glass is a classic reduction symptom.

One thing to check on your Hot Head:

Make sure all parts are screwed together tightly!

I had the same problem once and wasn't getting enough oxy in the mix because the top was loose!

Thanks for the tips. I guess I need to clean it. I've tried everything each of you said. I had to hold my glass so far out of the flame that it took 5 minutes to slightly melt the glass and I never had that problem before.

Are you using a bulk tank? Try draining the hose too, because they can get too much fluid gunk in them. It is the oily agent used to put the smell in the fuel, plus a little condensation.
