Cleaning my torch
I was wondering if any of you know the
Proper way to clean a lynx torch? I put
The wire down all the holes and blow oxy
Through afterwards. I would love to know
I am doing it right! They don't come with
Any cleaning instructions!

GTT Lynx Cleaning
Hi... You are doing it right...according to their recommendations anyway...
http://glasstorchtech.com/Instructions%20-%20Lynx.pdf
At the bottom of the instructions it simply says...Wire for ports, brush for face.
I have cleaned mine the same way as well. Seems to work fine.
Have fun...
Sue

Always run the oxygen DURING cleaning...not after.

not to thread-jack here, but is cleaning a premix tip the same as a surface mix torch?
logic says no, due to the gas being mixed in the tip...is there anything in there i can damage by inserting the cleaning wire too far?
fwiw i'm referring to a midrange with the premix topfire.

I am surprised there isn't more info on this. A good torch is an investment that you want to take optimal care of. i do maintenance on my torch whenever I use it but am always curiuos "should I be doing more?"

GTT sends out tools and a video that shows how to clean. The manufacturers should be the source of info.

i've got to assume that if jamming the cleaning tool into the premix was bad, they would say so somewhere.
worst case scenario is i ruin a tip and have to replace it.

I've never read anything about this but it just seems the way to do it. Without oxy flowing your just pushing it to the bottom of the port. Which leads me to believe that you will accumulate more carbon build up at a faster rate. I clean my torch every time i use it.

Thankyou for your responses.. I still think it is very odd that there isn't a guideline that comes with each torch.. It is a investment that you want to take optimal care of.

Mine didn't I had to buy a cleaning kit from GTT separately for $25 or so. And no DVD. I think I watched a video somewhere around here that showed the proper way to clean a torch.
It's odd, because my Bobcat had come with a wire attached for cleaning, but not the Lynx...so maybe it was an oversight.

Where did you buy it from? They DO come from GTT with the cleaning wire kits, directions, and DVD.

The smaller GTT torches should come with wires and a cleaning brush attached to the instruction sheet. The two stage and larger triple mix GTT torches should also come with an instructional DVD.
Sometimes, distributors take torches out of boxes to display at shows and stuff and the instructions get lost. Sometimes people throw out or overlook the instruction sheet when unpacking their torches from the box.
You can purchase cleaning kits and the instructional DVD from GTT: http://www.glasstorchtech.com/cleaningkitsdvds.html
You can make your own cleaning wire from .014 stainless steel wire leader (for fishing). Some people use a certain gauge guitar string, as well. For a stainless brush, you can use a Dremel stainless steel mini end brush. It is important to not use a brass brush for cleaning torches, as the bristles are too soft and can break off into the face.
It is not necessary to run the oxygen through your torch while cleaning it. It is a good idea, though, to take the torch off its base or off your bench and point the face downward while cleaning it. Simply sweep (don't scrub) the face of the torch with the stainless steel brush. Then, take a cleaning wire and gently go in and out of each port to clean it. After you clean all the ports, put your torch back into its normal position, turn it on, and run an aggressive flame for a couple of minutes.
