I'm really starting to learn how to work off mandrel now with your tuts Pipyr. I made 3 little snakes today and got some nice color (not as good as yours, though...). Used purple thunder, blue reflection and some other. Gotta try more tomorrow!

Well that was sort of an 'happy accident'. The base cracked big time one and I knew I couldn't get it back looking like it was so I just went with it - kinda making it look like it is on a cliff or something that is falling apart. I think it worked.

ETA The other thing that is kinda fun is I have LOTS and LOTS of boro not marked with what color it is. From Mr. Smilie's shorts to rods that were gifted to me. Some have numbers but they mean nothing to me. So I don't always know what is gonna happen color wise from a lot of them. It is fun playing though!

Nancy, if you go to http://www.northstarglass.com you can look up the number under "Working Our Color" and find out some information on how the color will look and the best flame settings to use.

Thanks Paul. I have rods marked Momkas Experimental I assume they differ from time to time. Because some look completely different from each other.

Tomorrow is my day off so I will be using that tute nonstop!

I promise I won't skip anything Pipyr, but for the first try I'm going to use what I have. All of the colors you talked about sound so yummy, it will be hard to decide what to get.

Hey Pipyr, I ordered mine as well. I am assuming that it will work for a Phantom and 4 oxycon's as well as just for one? Right now I am just running the center fire on two 5 lpm machines, still have to get some kind of heat protection to run the outer fire. Not to get off subject but what is that stuff called that people mount on the wall that their torch faces to protect the wall from getting burnt?
Thanks and can't wait till it gets here.
Donna

Hi all!! I'm baaa-aaaaack! I just got home and Nancy, those trees rock!!!!!! Love them!!

Donna - I'm not sure about the stuff to mount on the wall...I know what you are talking about, but I can't think what it's called either. I just keep my torch several feet away from the wall

Another wonderful tutorial Pipyr! I will post a pix when my little glassy friends come out of the kiln. The screwball was particularly fun to do.

Thanks!

Okie dokey guys...I've had qite a few more orders for these and I want to see some pictures!!!

At the moment, I am doing all of my work on a lynx with two 5 lpm oxy cons. Yes, that is more heat than the torch/oxy con set up in the tutorial, but the principles are still the same and the same info applies, as I am working with some good sized hunks of glass in this set-up with less heat than I would have using tanked oxy.

So...show me some pics!!!! Oh, and if you've seen the new trees I listed in my etsy, it's all the same techniques, just a little more control to get the branches interwoven. Between the tree section of the tut and the screwball section, you have all the info you need
