MANUEL AMEZCUA began flame working in 1996 after four years of screen-printing and airbrushing textiles and automotive accessories. After learning in his brother-in-law’s shop, Manuel went on to be head design artist for a well established production shop in Eugene, Oregon, between 1997 and 2004. Throughout that time he has also run his own home studio focusing on his own designs and concepts. In 2004, Manuel began volunteering at Eugene Glass School as a custodian, shop tech, and teacher’s assistant. Not too long after, he was hired on and invited to teach classes of his own. As a result of being at EGS, Manuel has had the opportunity to work and study with many artists such as David Willis, Mike Plane, and Thomas Müller Litz. He has also won awards two years in a row from the Eugene Glass School FlameOff for Sculpture and Goblet, placing 2nd in 2005, and 3rd in 2006. Manuel has a deep passion for flame working, enjoys teaching and wishes to share his knowledge and experience with other aspiring glass artists.
