MICHAEL BARLEY BEADS: TECHNIQUES FOR ENHANCING YOUR GLASS
Michael Barley
$600 + 50 material fee (non-refundable)
November 13-14, Sat-Sun (10am- 5pm)
The focus of Michael's workshop will be on learning through experimentation. The goal for the class is to help the students learn techniques that will enhance their own style of beadmaking. Students will be working with Effetre (Moretti) glass. The palette that they will work with is fairly limited; Michael will show you ways to blend colors and use silver leaf to create endless color combinations and a variety of effects. Students will make cane using an optic mold and learn ways to apply the cane to achieve different designs. Michael will show ways to make custom molds for shaping your beads and will demonstrate his method for clear casing, pulling twisted canes, shaping beads as well as how to use the custom molds that students can make. The class is divided about equally between demonstrations and time for the students to practice on the torch. Intermediate skill level preferred.
Intermediate to advanced level.

MICHAEL BARLEY has been working in glass since 1991. Over the years he has developed several unique techniques for making beads which he will share in his class. Michael’s interest in beads goes back to the 1980's when he was working in clay. In addition to the clay pots he has made, he made beads out of colored porcelain.
