Default Sugar beads

I would like to make sugared beads but having a horrible time with it. How do you have the bead soft enough to take the frit but not too soft to distort it?
The frit I am using is size 1. Would changing the size help me? Any suggestions would be great!

Your frit size might a bit large. I use size #00. Also try using a stiffer color glass until you get the hang of sugering. White glass is hard to do because the softness of the color. Hope this helps.

I use size 0 and use a teaspoon to roll my bead in the frit. It's an overly fussy setup (to me) but it works. I keep my frit jar to the side, and put an aluminum tart pan directly under my work zone, then scoop up the frit in the spoon, roll an almost-too-hot bead in the frit, and let the overflow fall into the pan. I have the edge folded like a spout so I can just pour it back into the jar when I'm done.
