Torch set-up??

Ok, stupid question!
I am getting a new torch with oxy concentrator. I am assuming that I only need one regulator, right....for the propane tank.
About these regulators, MUST they be purchased through a torch dealer? Will any ole propane tank regulator work?
Oh, and those hoses......where do I find those? Seems the torch dealers have those babies priced high.
Any ideas are appreciated.

Hi Teri! You are correct...you only need a regulator for the propane tank. I also purchased a flashback arrestor for the propane as well. (You don't need either for the oxycon).

Regarding regulators, I purchased mine through Glasshopper, although the pressure gauge goes much higher than what's needed for my torch. I would suggest going to FrantzArtGlass.com to purchase a regulator for a lower pressure (they also sell flashback arrestors).

I bought my 12ft hoses at Glasshopper Studio. I can't remember exactly how much it cost me, but it wasn't expensive. I think Frantz also carries those, but maybe someone will chime in with a place where you can find them cheaper.

You can find hose at welding shops.... some have deals. MAKE SURE YOU GET T-GRADE though! Otherwise in time you'll have the rubber insides of the hose sticking to the inside of your torch valves.
The propane regulators all work. There are pre-set ones for $25 list price that keep a constant 3 psi, which is fine for most bead torches. There are also ones that don't have gauges, but do have a valve to open up more flow. Those work great and can be found for the $25 list price as well. If you really want to see your psi AND how much fuel you have left, then getting one with gauges is best. They run $75-$100.

Try a farm supply store. They carry T-grade for a good price. They also carry regulators.

You may also consider using a "pancake" regulator like used on BBQ's and such... It is way less expensive that a adjustable regulator and will supply torch with propane at a pressure equal to what it would be if you were using torch on natural gas.
