Default regulator type

so, i set up an account with our locally owned oxygen supplier today. their regulators are OUTRAGEOUSLY PRICED! So, im back to google search. This has led me to another question!

do i need a propane specific regulator or can i get a twin pack of oxy/acyt regulators to save money. i have found a twin pack in smith and victor brands that im willing to spend.

next question: i got the red max on order and from what i can tell i need 3/8" hose (i think). is there a reasonably priced place or website where i can get a t-grade hose??

Thanks for the quick response!

You are correct about the "T" hose for the propane line. Again, your local welding supply store should have what you need. Here AirGas or Air Liquide have what was needed. In your area you should have a lot more choices that I have.

The standard acetylene regulator that comes in a two pack for gas welding is just fine. Use one on this end and it fits directly into the propane tank without any adapters. Use Randor gauges which is a Victor clone. Found some on Craig's List, unused for a pair, at $100. Just about half price of new ones. The nice part is that when the propane is set at 5 PSI it just stays there.

Thanks Alaska!

Well the two welding shops i went to today both did not stock 3/8" hose...(i dont think they even stocked t-grade, but i could be wrong). one of these is a major supplier that i mentioned earlier (locally owned) redball oxygen and then there is airgas.

Ill check out the Randor regulators. That regulator you have for you propane isn't a 2-stage is it? if it stays at 5 all day, that's pretty sweet!

Yes, you are correct on the spelling. Just tooooo many keys on the keyboard to choose from!!

Here is an image of the setup with the Radnor. Have not looked in their catalog, but from what I gather it is a single stage regulator.

hit the downside of either a scam, or a website glitch. weldfabulous.com kept denying my AMEX when i hit submit payment. I called AMEX and told them what was going on and they said, "oh, you've been charged." anyway, im going to call the website (it was a high rated result on google) and see if i cant get this sorted out. hopefully i dont have to dispute the charges with AMEX. otherwise i found a couple harris reg's on weldingsupply.com.

Dale another wonderful explanation, as always. I seriously don't know what we'd do without the people who can explain all the technical bits. Thanks!!!
