Default fine silver wire questions

1. What is the best gauge of fine silver wire to use on an un-encased bead?

2. I am using a 28 gauge fine silver wire and am having issues with it tarnishing. Could my fine silver wire actually be sterling rather than fine? It was sold to me as "fine." Will fine silver wire tarnish on an un-enased bead?

3. I am having issues with jagged edges after I melt in my wire. Is that because of the gauge being too large or more of a heating/melting problem?

Any comments on silver wire use is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Dianna

Fine silver does tarnish, but not as quickly as sterling. it can be removed easily. I use 28, 30, and 32 gauge wire. try working cooler if you're getting rough bumps. And you can use a marver/knife/tool to smooth the silver while you're making the bead. But cooler is better.
