Default reduction flame

Is it possible to get a decent reduction flame using a Hot Head torch? Would love to hear how you do it..........

I don't know about a HH, but I completely turn off my oxygen to reduce on my Bitch-a-cuda.

Hey Cheeky!
I havent tried it myself - but it sounds good in theory -
to reduce oxygen from Hot Head flame - wrap aluminum foil around the
holes near the base of the torch head - maybe a couple layers, so its strong enough to do the job without tearing.
Wrap it so you have a little extra - like a flap - to act as a handle to remove it or tighten it up what have you - and Id recomend using pliers to remove/tighten too - dont know how much heat the foil will hold - wouldnt wanna find out the hot way!!!
Happy experimenting!

THX - I will give it a whirl this morning. I haven't been at the torch for 3 weeks now!! Last weekend was hot air ballooning tho, does that count? It was a GIANT torch What a blast , we crewed for some friends who have a balloon and got to ride as well. SO THIS weekend is bead time.

A HH fame is on verge of being reduction flame to start with... That is why some of the techniques that require a neutral or oxidizing flame do not turn out well when using a Hot Head.... As others have said, partially blocking the air inlet holes at base of burner head will further reduce air intake and produce reduction flame...

I've heard that if you run the bead thru the cone part of the flame you get a reduction flame. I don't know if that's enough for what you are doing but it makes the bullseye lusters do their thing quite nicely.
