Clean your sensor?
I have a DSLR and there is an obvious speck on my sensor. Has anyone out there
ever cleaned their own sensor? There are kits to do it but I would hate to f it up.

Um, I have but DONT reccomend it. If done wrong, you can blow out your sensor, or blow the speck further into the camera body... I would send your camera in and have the manufacturer do it for you...

We get ours cleaned once a year at the local camera store.

Thanks Lynda. I hate the thought of sending my studio camera away for more than a couple of days.

I've cleaned mine, with a kit. You swab and not blow so no chance of the dust getting blown in. It is (evidently) a bit delicate and can scratch the sensor. I haven't and don't feel like I have the lightest touch in the world.
However, I understand not wanting to take the chance. In that case, I would strongly suggest the local camera store over sending the camera in to the manufacturer. I know of several people who have sent cameras in for cleaning and had them come back dirty, at least one person more than once.

Happy to help. I have also tried the swab method too, but it left my mirror and sensor with streaks... argh. Its just so much easier to send it off. Not sure what type of camera you have but if its a Cannon, they customer service is great!

My husband waits while they clean it. He has a certain talent for gab, so it gets cleaned while he waits.
