Default Green goo coming out of my torch

I went on vacation and turned off my oxy/propane tanks...today when I turned them back on to start working...it spit and sputtered...I shut it off and when I turned it back on green goo poured out of the ports on my torch head....any clues to what that is and what I do about it?

I'm just gonna post here to see what answers you get. I'm looking around for an answer too!
And if you don't get an answer- how about calling the torch manufacturer?

Does it smell horrible, if so I have had similar yellowish goo and I guessed it was the odor substance they use in the propane tank. This is a total guess and I don't know if it is correct.

new propane tank installed, goo blown out of the lines, but my regulator doesnt work now...guess it has green goo glob up in there. it won't let me change the PSI and it's stuck on 39.

Do you bleed your lines when you're done for the day? If not, after you shut off both your oxy and propane tanks, turn the propane on at the torch and light it and burn off whatever is in your hoses, then turn that off and open your oxy lines and let all of the oxy in the hoses escape.

Regulator not necessarily stuck.... Maybe just the gauge is stuck.... Back off knob/t-handle and tap gauge........

Every body says that and nobody knows much about it....Ethyl Mercaptan that is...

First off ethyl mercaptan is about one pound in about 10,000 gallons (43,000 pounds) propane so it is a infinitesimally small amount of mercaptan in any give volume of propane...

http://brucegoldfarb.com/matters-of-degree

Ethyl mercaptan is a highly flammable liquid so it would be burn off as it passes through torch flame.....

http://www.mathesongas.com/pdfs/msds/MAT09070.pdf

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Methanethiol

Most likely the green goo is stuff from hose that is part of composition to keep hoses flexible (plasticizer) ...

I personally like the Ectoplasm theory....

I have seen this in propane hoses at the shop that are relatively new but have siginicant use. It always smells of mercaptan, the smell most folks associate with Propane so some of this substance is remaining in the hose itself. Quote wiki numbers till the cows come home if it makes you happy.

Same thing happened to me. Yellow colored gunk that seemed very oily or greasy spewing from the propane hose. Ruined the regulator. Smith was great and gave me a new one when they couldn't repair the one I had. Torch seems to be ok. Hoses were about a year old and not heavily used at the time.

Am I the only one who read the subject line of this post and some of the post content and wanted to suggest penicillin?

I don't have the answer to the question though. I hope you get it sorted out!
