Consignment question
This question is for anyone who sells their beads and/or jewelry on consignment. How do you keep track of...or how are you informed of what sold when you receive payment? How do you and the shopkeeper handle theft? Who's responsible? Thanks in advance!

Hi Rudy. I have pieces in two different galleries/studios. They are both responsible for paying me my cut if a piece is stolen or misplaced within the gallery. It's written in the agreement/contract that we both signed, with both of us having a copy.
As for inventory control, all pieces have my studio name, price and inventory number. When a piece is sold, it is checked off the inventory sheet as sold and the date. When they send me a check at the end of the month, it comes with a notation sheet with the inventory numbers and my percentage of sale price of each piece.

You both need to sign an inventory sheet with items detailed and value noted. You need to visit often and check to see if items are sold. You need to clearly stipulate in your contract when you will be paid for items that sell. You should understand what needs to be done to pull your work from there if it is not selling.
Every place probably has their own "system" that they can explain, and a contract for you to sign. If they don't, you should decline the offer.
If it were me, I would also want to understand how long the place has been around, and talk to other artists about their experience selling there.

Any chance you would be able to send me a copy of your contract...redacting name, etc... I would appreciate it very much as I could use it to help me come up with my own contract. Please
