You need to go to welding or propane supplier and get CGA 510 (industry stand nomenclature) connector put on regulator, you have what appears to be one for the "B" series Acetylene tank (CGA 520B) , by having new fitting put on your regulator it would forever eliminate the problem of loosing the adapter...

http://www.teecoproducts.com/Catalog/A9.htm

OR you need to find this item...

I think (not certain - picture not definitive) your regulator "connector" (fitting) is the CGA 520B series ...

IT appears you have the CGA 520B fitting on your regulator (for "B" size acetylene tank) and your propane tank (actually all propane tanks) take a CGA 510 style fitting....

It may possibley a CGA 300 series...

http://www.weldfabulous.com/Cutting-...-p6844770.html

Or possible the CGA 200 series....

The CGA 510 fitting is also referred to POL for "Prest-O-Lite" (acetylene/air torch) which most people mistake for "Put On Left" ( which actually works)

According to the prints for the SB 250 regulator, you have the CGA 300 fitting.

I think my "guess" that it is a 520b is wrong but it could be one of the 300 series ....

Anyway take regulator to "gas" supplier or welding shop and they can fix you up....Adapter is not typically a "hardware store" item you are looking for....
