Default Are You Willing To Buy Rods Cut in Half To Save Freight?

The most frustrating part of this business is charging a client shipping charges. When we send out our sample packs we cut the rods in half to save shipping.
Would you be open to receive your rods in 9" lengths in order to save money? Are you willing to get your clear rod in 9" lengths? Thank you for your response.

with color i'm ok with shorter rods...i can just tack them back together.
for my marble stock (26mm simax) and tubing i buy whole cases. this also helps keep the rods/tubes nice and clean w/o scratches.

I normally melt mine into shorter lengths when they get here anyway. They dont fit into my storage tubes at the standard length

Depends on the size of the order. For smaller orders I'd say yes, but I'd melt them together when they get here. My glass storage is set up for long rods. For big orders, no. I don't think the time spent melting that many rods together would save me anything. Labeling every rod takes enough time.

I know Momka used to offer (maybe still does. I haven't bought glass in a long while) half length rods in a lot of her colors. I would choose them over the longer ones not because of cost but handling. One almost never uses more than a few inches of color at a time and I find the balance of a long rod vs a shorter rod to be better with the short rod.
Long story short. I would buy the short rods but not to save freight.

The USPS Game Board box will handle 19 inch long rods. Of course, being the post office one might just end up with a box of frit!!!

Are we talking about 5ft original lengths? Because I would absolutely love ordering shorter than that. I spend hours cutting those down when they come. Tube and rod.

We carry Scott clear that we cut and sell in 19" lengths. We have placed our first Simax order and it comes in 59" lengths that we will sell in cases only. I really feel ill knowing how much shipping will cost for that. Only the freight carrier comes out on that deal.

Thank you for your response.

Thanks for the tip on the game box. I will check it out. Speaking of frit we bought a commercial frit grinder to grind and package frit. Maybe I should cancel the grinder and just send the rods USPS?

Yes to cut down, especially boro. Soft, not so much.

I always have my supplier cut my boro rods in half at least to save on shipping. I request it.
So Yes!

Yes, cut them for me. Saves shipping and as stated earlier I can't balance a long rod in my hand.

for me 9 inch clear rods are only 3 inches away from being tossed in a box to be used as punties for soft glass. so no I will buy full length rods or full length rods cut into thirds

Definitely. I cut mine in half when they arrive anyway, so it would actually help me to have them shorter (less cutting time, more torch time )

I have storage for full length, which is under my bench, and torch accessible storage setup for 19" lengths. 9" is too short. I usually buy clear and tubing by the case.

Thanks for your advice. We now sell glass by the Pound, 1/2 lb., 1/4 lb., single rod and half-rod.
